Lens base template tool
Posted By: pacerr, 07-07-2011, 07:30 AM

This "tool" helps to modify the aperture matrix info contacts for certain lens (such as older Adaptall mounts) with PK/A contacts which misreport the lens' actual aperture. It also helps to accurately index the lens locking notch when modifying an M42 - PK adapter.

I've found it very helpful to have a "template" for modifying the PK/A contacts on the Adaptall lens adapters. If you have a defunct PK/A body you can cannibalize it and salvage the lens mount.

Properly indexed on a lens base, you have a template to mark (and/or drill) the contact positions with a high degree of precision.

The nail polish allows for a good temporary trial arrangement -- measure twice, cut once, etc. Once you get it the way you want it, spot drilling the contact positions (about 0.1-0.2mm is fine) and filling with epoxy provides a more permanent fix. If you should want to return to the original condition, remove the epoxy and fill with solder (most mounts are plated brass). In either case, you can smooth the material with a sharp blade when hardened.

Is the template still available? Your image doesn't show up on my system.

The " template" is the body mount plate salvaged from a defunct camera body -- " If you have a defunct PK/A body you can cannibalize it and salvage the lens mount. "

Mate the lens and the salvaged mount plate and all pin and notch points are aligned properly.

This thread is pretty old, but the problem recurs. If you want to modify a lens mount to be a pretend KA mount, you need a drill template which was the subject of this thread, and the knowledge of which pins do what.

For a drill template use a dead camera lens mounting plate. We've all seen Pentax xz30 or xz50 cameras with the mirror locked up, due to the dreaded plastic motor gear failure. Or perhaps you have an old A3000 with battery corrosion that killed the whole camera. Any of these have easy to remove mounts.

To decide which pins to ground and which to insulate, look here:
Features and Operation of the Ka Mount
