Taking a chance on a Lens Lot
Posted By: Cipher, 11-04-2019, 04:23 PM

I bid on an as-is lot of lenses and miscellany from KEH and won it for $51.The plan was to cannibalize some of the lenses
into various soft-focus lenses. I was surprised to find that most of the lenses were like new, and many of the accessories were actually useful. Only one lens was broken, as were the flashes. A quick run-down (from front to back, left to right):

Genuine SMC Pentax closeup lens (52mm)
K mount to 49mm lens reversing ring
20mm ext. tube, 2x and 3x teleconverters
Kalimar 135mm f2.8 in PK mount
Quarrymaster 80-205 f4.5 zoom PK mount

Non-Pentax M to K mount adapter (no infinity)
Generic viewfinder hood for Pentax
SMC Pentax-A 50mm f1.4 with bag(!)
Sakar 28-70 f3.5 zoom with macro (1:1.5) PK-A/R mount
Ritzcam 28-85 f3.5-4.5 zoom PK-A/R
Albinar 80-200 f4.5-5.6 zoom PK-A/R
Albinar 80-200 f3.9 zoom (broken)

Pentax 67 cold weather battery holder
2 dead flashes
Pentax winder ME II (apparently dead)
Pentax data back for MZ-5/ZX-5 (new)
Unknown plate
Fotodiox manual ext tube set for Nikon
Tamron C/Y 2 converter, C/Y to PK optical converter
Unknown Pentax SLR case

The kicker, of course, is the SMC-A 50mm f1.4. It is apparently OK, all my test shots were good, no evidence of de-centering.

The Kalimar 135 f2.8 seems to be a good performer as well. The Sakar zoom is interesting in that it really approaches macro territory.
All the other zooms are the usual culprits - The Ritzcam and Albinar f4.5 are newer designs.

If someone could use the Pentax case, winder or data back PM me and I'll send it out gratis. The 6x7 battery holder and plate are spoken for.

I'll be working on some of the funkier lenses this winter, if I get any worthwhile results from my experiments I'll post them here.

Glad you can use it, glad that somebody even knew what it was for.

I had a Pentax 6x7 twenty years ago and the cold weather battery holder, so I was aware of it.

And thanks to garywakeling who knew what the plate was!

If I got a couple of teleconverters and a 50/1.4 for $51 I'd consider that a bargain!

Another modified lens, this time the Sakar 28-70mm:

The front elements have been replaced with four close-up lenses (and some spacers) with plastic wrap inserted behind the new elements, giving a dreamy look:
