Low angle viewer
Posted By: Pentax Bob, 04-25-2010, 06:08 PM

I recently upgraded to a K-x from a Panasonic Lumix FZ-30. One featue I miss is the tilt swivel LED screen. I have come up with a way of viewing the screen on the K-x for low angle photos. I will attepmt to attach a few photos to illustrate. ( first attemtp)

In short I have attached a ladies compact mirror to the botom of the K-X wit velcro. The mirror is then angled fo rview of the screen for photos taken from below waste height. This is a big help for old men who are not as flexible as we once were. It should also work for a tripod mounted camera pointed up. Attach to the tripod head instead.

It is not as good as a tilt swivel screen or the " Flipback" comercial product but is is easy on and off and out of the way when not needed.

I picked up the compact mirror at Target for around $4.

One of the few things that the K10 did not have went I got it was a flip out viewfinder. When I see other models with one I get jealous.

I don't know why I had not thought of this before.

Back in my studio days I used a great big ungainly medium format film camera. When I changed orientations to shoot portraits the image in the viewfinder became upside down and backwards as opposed to just backwards. So this little DYI should be no problem.

Yours is a great idea but back in July I purchased a Flipbac for $22.98 USD including S&H for my K-5.
It is easy to install and offers protection for the screen when closed.
I am very pleased with it. It opens vertically and horizontally.
At first I thought it was rather flimsy but I have taken over 1200 pictures with it attached and have used it frequently. It shows no signs of wear.
It is a good thing.

A member recently asked for a photo of the camera bottom showing the attachment of the velcro. Here it is.
