Click on the DISP button once to activate live view through the screen.

After you turn the camera on press the menu button. Then scroll to the Rec. Mode menu (red camera). Scroll down through this menu to "Memory". In the memory menu scroll down and you will see "DISPLAY" with a box next to it. If the box is checked, uncheck it.

The camera thinks you want it to remember your display preference, which was set to off. Now it should start with the default live view each time it is turned on.

No problem, glad you will be able to enjoy it.

A couple more things that may help you:

The display view changes when you press the center OK button. From what I remember there are 4-5 views. Basically it changes what information is displayed along the edges of the lcd. The last setting is "off" which turns the live view off. Pressing the OK button will cycle through these different views.

If you find you prefer one of the other views better than the default (say you choose one that is less cluttered or you like the one that displays the histogram) then you can go back to the "Memory" and "DISPLAY" menu and re-check the box to remember your display preference. It remembers what view/display option was each time the camera is turned off. And again, you can cycle through views and turn the display on/off by using the OK button.
