Optio W90 Goes Scuba Diving

And lived to tell the tale. I sent it with my 16 and 17 year olds on a trip to SeaBase with their boyscout group. The back lcd screen came back scratched up the camera still works. My main complaint is that the 16 year old, of course, didn't listen when I told him how many pictures the card would hold and came home with only 63 pics on a week long trip, thinking I said it would only hold 100. Arg.

Here's one of the shots taken by my 16 year old. Softness it due more to his inexperience with a camera. Don't blame the camera. I've gotten wonderfully sharp images with this little thing. The main point is obviously they are under water and the seals held. Yay.

That photo looks great - if only there were more PS users around online...

It does. I would have taken 63 underwater let alone for an entire week. A teenager with restraint? How did you raise this kid?

Good to hear it held up, scuba diving is another hobby of mine, what depth did he take it down to?

Well the reason for restraint was lack of listening which is fairly typical for the teenaged male (based on experience here). I have to say I've been digging the P&S world lately. I bought an E90 (in red) at the same time as this. They're great little cameras.

The max. depth for the camera is 20ft so they didn't take it in on the deeper dives.

Here's a few more shot by my boys, including some underwater meta-photography. One of them got a shot of the divemaster shooting his big underwater rig but it's not clear enough to actually see much detail of the camera.

I have (or rather, my wife has) the w80. Sadly we didn't have many opportunities to go scuba diving in great locations since acquiring it. This makes me want to go to the Carribeans again. Thanks for sharing!

I'm hoping I'll have a chance to try this out in a similar situation some day but I'm not holding out hope. I still really don't think it's fair that my boys got to do this but I didn't. I have to say though, after lugging around slrs and dslrs for so long, I'm really enjoying the fun experimentation that can be done with little compact camera. The 1cm focusing on this puppy is cool. I'm starting to wish there were more postings in this forum.
