Point and Shoot Contest #39 -Night Shots-

As title suggests, I would like pictures taken at night, outdoors, and can be moon
on water, city streets, lit buildings, etc.

THE RULES
1. Have fun!
2. No 35mm, APS, or 4/3 SLR/DSLR cameras allowed. 110 film SLRs, 35mm and smaller
rangefinder/viewfindercameras are allowed. No large format cameras allowed. As to medium
format, 6x9/6x6 or 35mm box cameras and Holga or Holga-type (Lomo) cameras are allowed.
Basically, if you have cameras that can mount other lenses, they aren't allowed.
3. Entries will close on February 28, 2011, midnight GMT.
4. Maximum image dimensions are 800x800 pixels.
5. List camera brand, model with entry for all to see.
6. THEME: "Night shots"
7. Max of 3 photographs per person.
8. Post processing is fine.
9. Winner will set up and judge next contest.

I've been told that night pictures are difficult with digital point and shoots, but
hope you'll give it a try. I'm not a slave to sharp focus, if a picture grabs me
in some way, that is enough. Agree with Bart, it is purely subjective by the judge's
viewpoint and should NOT denigrate the fine work I've seen posted here.

Some examples from an Olympus Trip 35 (35mm zone focus film camera):

If you have an aging digital point and shoot (like I have, Fuji F10) converting to
B&W does away with color noise and CA.

Excellent point, G.T, any flat surface will do, flash off, and use the timer function.
A lot of digital point and shoots have a night mode program, too. Don't be afraid
to experiment, have fun!

My "fully night mode" is: camera screwed onto the 'pod, 2s timer, night mode on, lowest sensitivity (ISO), and of course flash off. Anything else is extras, call it trimming or experience.
I wouldn't dare writing I have so much experience. Time will tell, and here the night is coming

Agree, that IS a nice theme. I know there will be many people challenging, but as I used to say when I was younger, racing is living, so...

I might actually be able to participate in this. I missed the last contest because I didn't have the daylight for the picture I wanted to take until it was too late.

Does this hold true for medium format box-type cameras in general, or ONLY the Holga/Lomo branded stuff? I have a Kodak Autographic Brownie No. 2 I'd like to use for this one.

Box cameras are certainly welcome here, one of my faves.

Are pre-dawn, post sunset with sky still partially lit OK or is full night needed?

Pretty much am after full night, with lighting by moon or artificial. Sorry, I know this
theme is more difficult.
