Point and Shoot Contest #40 - Spring is almost there -

Hello!

As the sun breaks above the ground and daylight lasts longer, one can tell the winter is behind us for its biggest part. Once again, spring is coming and nature is waking up once again.
So the subject is easy : take pictures of animals, woods, and so on ; ie everything which may lead to thinking of the incoming spring.

THE RULES
1. Have fun!
2. No 35mm, APS, or 4/3 SLR/DSLR cameras allowed. 110 film SLRs, 35mm and smaller
rangefinder/viewfindercameras are allowed. No large format cameras allowed. As to medium
format, 6x9/6x6 or 35mm box cameras and Holga or Holga-type (Lomo) cameras are allowed.
Basically, if you have cameras that can mount other lenses, they aren't allowed.
3. Entries will close on March 31st, 2011, midnight GMT.
4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 pixels.
5. List camera brand, model with entry for all to see.
6. THEME: "Spring is almost there"
7. Max of 3 photographs per person.
8. Post processing is fine.
9. Winner will set up and judge next contest.

Shiny trail, for example. Took on Feb, 28th.

That was fast!

I think I see some possibilities.
Noticed the image dimensions got enhanced.

I asked his opinion to a workmate, as you can imagine I wasn't prepared to chose one. I rejected all my first ideas like cars or aircrafts : not everyone likes those boxes made of steel or live near an airport (or field). So I ended up on this one, which seems pretty easy to me with a P&S and has the advantage to match the season, at least in northern hemisphere.

I decided to enhance image sizes, but keeping a 4/3 aspect ratio. 4x6 is welcome... Anything with a common aspect ratio, not more than 1000px on its longer size is the stuff.

Good luck, ladies and gentlemen. Don't forget the rule #1, it's the most important to me. Don't go away with your cameras bearing in mind you have a contest to run.

G. T, if I may make a suggestion, if you're going to expand the size file a more useful
one would be 1024pix on the long side. That is what flickr has for the large file (original
can be anything short of a king size bed sheet) and saves people from having to download
the file to their desktop, resize it, lob it back to flickr, then lob it over here. Otherwise, I think
people will post the medium size which is 640pix.

I don't know where the 800 x 800 size came from, maybe back when point and shoots were
under 3MP and any file larger than that you could count pixels.

Right. I modified the rules to allow 1024, although I wouldn't have been stiff for 24px

Can these be photos I've taken previously, or must I take one this month? Thanks.

Charles.

True that's not said, but as usual there's no date imposition: you can take whatever photo you want.

Seems like I'm the first to jump

At this point in time over here, you still have to look really hard to spot some signs of spring. But I think I found some.

All pictures taken with Panasonic FX500.

Minimalistic

Water plants prepare for spring as well

Some colour anyway

Nice ones, Bart, I hope to change this out, but spring may not arrive in time. Cherry blossoms, taken two years ago:

Charlotte at Duke Gardens

Entry #1: Charlotte at Duke Gardens. Canon Powershot A520 (4 megapixel, circa 2006). f2.6, 1/800, in "Portrait" mode. Only post processing was a *very* minor saturation bump.

Yay! Does it have to be a 6x6/6x9, or are 6x7 and 6x4.5 and 6x8 allowed to play too? I figure 6x9 is the upper limit.

Can't wait to go out and shoot something.

Spring is here, spring is here, life is Skittles and life is Beer.

Three weeks to go, and already a bunch of nice photos!
Erik, I'll just answer "as usual" and you know you can use your Brownie is you feel like

Spring is there, yes. Yesterday afternoon, on my way back, I saw a lot of birds migrating back to the north - don't know their English species' names. Sorry.

And if life is beer... I'd like to feel alive, a pint or two

ha. I find this ironic given where I've spent the last week.

These aren't for the contest, I'll go through the harddrive and find some stuff for that.
