problem with Pentax Optio M20

My friend gave me her old Optio M20 to use while my camera is getting fixed. I put a memory card and batteries in and the camera seems to be working. Except this - when I take a picture, I can view it for the initial 2 seconds, but then when I go to playback mode, it says "Camera cannot play this image and sound" I tried to put it into my computer to see if the pictures came up there but they did not (except one blank image that could not be read by computer).
Does anyone know what the problem is here and how I can fix it?

You may try another memory card. This may be a faulty SD... On a "back to basics" approach, ideally try with a 128MB card or something similar.
