Jim, that looks like a winniner for UW work. It does take some getting used to. Look forward to more.

I tried the macro function on the XZ and got these (had to use the VF2 as the florida sun killed the LCD). Love this camera

I'm dusting off this thread and wow, Ivoire, those macros of the little tree frog(?) are excellent! I pulled the trigger last night for a white XZ-1, refurbed with factory warranty for $295, free shipping. Just have to wait for it to arrive from California. lol Waiting for charger and two more batteries from HK, have three 8GB SDHC cards that arrived already.

congrats on getting the XZ-1 (i buy refurbs routinely). It is a very versatile camera and the lens is superb. post some pics once you get it or better yet, enter point n shoot competition #56.

The other competitor to the XZ was the FujiX10 but just too expensive by my standards. for less money i picked up a Panny GH1 as a backup to the K5 (which i have decided to keep for another year or 2)

Ivoire, thanks, hope to have something for this month's competition. The new Sony RX100 is quite impressive, but
at $650, I can wait awhile.

rumours about that the Ricoh GRD is going to get a boost with a 1" sensor. If it does, I'm all over it. I love my GRD3, but a 5 with a bigger sensor? YUMMY!

Chubasco/Kyteflyer.... get a new battery (although i think you want the x10). Even with the battery reading 2/3 charged i got 225+ shots and tho it was flashing empty, it was still shooting. I won't be getting rid of mine. Also, it came with a second battery (which i have yet to use)

1400mah battery with free ship to Australia

Battery For Olympus XZ-1 SP-800UZ SP-800 UZ Li-50b Li50b NEW | eBay
Finally got round to ordering a new battery, more juice is good. Still not getting the X10 and may never, I'm over it now and I still love the XZ. Will likely get the EVF for the XZ though, still didnt get round to doing that. Battery is coming as a 2 pack (different seller to the one you referenced, shipping was something like 99c) so I'll have three charged up all the time

The more I use the XZ (and my Ricoh, and X100) the more I love all of them. So much so I am beginning to think that I no longer need or want my K-5 and lenses. Hanging on for a bit longer. I know I will regret selling as soon as I do it.

Yeah I thought about getting a tunnel OVF but in the end decided I'd prefer an EVF, esp because it kinda locks in. Might order one this week, just sold my iMac and will be getting a screen to go with the MBP but I think I can do both, with the profits

My XZ-1 arrived:

Have a question, is it worthwhile shooting RAW with this camera? All these were using
largest file JPEG, haven't loaded the CD to process RAW files.

congrats on the new toy, those are very nice! re raw: raw files contain more data and as such allow a greater margin for correction should a shot "go wrong". That said, the jpegs out of the XZ are very good. Since i am no expert i will defer to this:
