Point and Shoot Contest #49: Lights

Subject: Lights - interpret as you wish, but notice the plural - this is not about natural light, but about multiple sources of light

Also, I took the liberty to change the rules with the goal of simplifying them: I didn't notice anyone still using film P&S in contests, so I removed the conditions that allowed fixed lens film P&S. Winner can change rules back to original set, if they wish to do so.

THE RULES

1. Only entries from digital cameras with fixed lenses (zoom or prime) and sensors up to 1/1.6" are allowed. Film cameras, interchangeable lens cameras, and digital cameras with sensors larger than 1/1.6" are NOT allowed.

2. Entries will close on December 31, 2011, midnight Pacific Standard Time, US.

3. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 pixels.

4. List camera brand and model with entries, for all to see.

5. THEME: "Lights"

6. Max of 3 photographs per person.

7. Post processing is fine.

8. Winner will set up and judge next contest.

Links to previous contests (up to #37):

#48: Motion
#47: Juxtaposition
#46: People Relaxing/Having Fun
#45: (Wo)Men at Work
#44: Things that Fly
#43: Wet, Wild or Stormy
#42: Life, The Universe, and Everything
#41: Shadows
#40: Spring is almost there
#39: Night Shots
#38: The Test of Time
#37: Black and White Landscapes

I added links for the previous contests, but I was too lazy to go dig up the first 36 contests.

Cheers,
Laurentiu

I will have to bow out. Read the 1/1.7 rule, looked up the Samsung and it is 1/2.4. See you in the next competition... maybe. Have fun and enjoy the holidays!

Film cameras not allowed?!

Nuts to this.

EDIT: I don't know what I did to piss you guys off so badly, but I apologize.

Ivoire, you're good, 1/2.4 is smaller than 1/1.7. Nice first entry!

Ivoire, no problem, I have my senior moments, too. I was looking at the
specs of the Olympus XZ-1 (a future purchase) and it wouldn't make it at
1/1.63.

I was thinking of getting the XZ1 as i have the EPL2 and the optical viewfinder which would work on the XZ1. Then i realized that a shirt pocket camera was what i really wanted for convenience. The S95/100 was tempting but I'm an off brand kinda guy. The sweep pano, time lapse, small size, and manual controls sold me on the Samsung

Ivoire, thanks, gonna have to give that Samsung a look, liking your results
with that first entry. That's some low noise for 1600.

1600 iso has some noise but a quick luminance slider adjust in ACR took it away (i shoot raw). I was very surprised when I opened the images. Take a look at this 1600iso image using ACR luminance reduction

I'm going to read some reviews, nice to know it shoots RAW.

Looks like it goes pretty wide, too.

Have to say I'm pretty damn impressed with what I've read so far: shoots HD video, 24mm wide 5x zoom,
and the modes look very interesting, plus, it has a CMOS sensor which really helps with the noise.

Lovely entry, ivoire.

Collect & Go

the door is shut

follow the cobblestone path

All with Panasonic FX500.
I'm going to take a wild guess this is a small sensor camera

I'm sorry to see film cameras are gone but I do believe the general consensus is that the winner sets the rules for the contest. They can indeed always be changed in the next one.

Erik, this might be an extra motivation? You do have a an Optio A40, don't you?

Yeah, I really like Ivoire's BW treatment, too.

Bart, really like 2 and 3 in your set, pretty early in the game to shoot your
whole wad, though. Just kidding.
