Really fine entry, wildman.
The fog adds to the desolate feel.

Here's my first entry. An abandoned anti-aircraft gun (I think) from World War 2. Taken with my HTC phone.

Protecting the also abandoned property, it would seem.
A fine entry Anton!

Thanks Bart.
The building was once the proud headquarters of the Natal Mounted Rifles Regiment, formed in about 1870. It was a cavalry regiment which converted to an armoured regiment after World War 1.
During World War 2 the regiment saw action in the North African Desert War and later in Italy. All that is left now is a regimental association of past members who meet monthly to socialise and share memories.
The rest of the building is virtually derelict. Sad really.

Thanks Anton for the interesting background story. Adds context.

Sure like your entries, Ryan. The faded colour on the car works really well.

Little over one week to go and I'm already quite worried about the task ahead.
But don't let that stop you, people
Keep the entries coming.

Michael, sorry to hear about the cataract, hope everything is fine now. Since my last entry, I had one of those months at the job, only picked up on it now. To everyone else, fine entries! Bart, you've got your work cut out for you this month!

Nice stuff everyone! It's a tough theme... I kept hoping to create something fresh this month, but the couple abandoned themed captures that I managed just failed to inspire me..

These were taken with my Canon SD870 point and shoot..

This one of my daughter Hannah was taken a couple years ago.. Had to crop it a lot so her facial expression can be seen.. She fell behind the pack (except for me of course lugging all the gear)as we were headed down to the beach and she started to flip out and panic when other people started coming up the stairs towards her.. Why would I rush to help her when I could take a picture instead?! lol...

This is a rat carcass my daughter noticed stuck and dangling underneath my car while we were out camping last year. I wasn't able to capture a perspective that showed the exposed skeleton, but it was obvious that it had been hanging out there for a long time (and with my gnarly work commute who knows how many miles).. I think it must have been trying to get up into the engine where it's warm.. ?

And this shot of a blind beggar is from my trip to China in 2008 (we were there adopting my daughter Hope). I wish I had framed this guy better in the background here, but I was more focused on using my pentax at the time..

Now that is an original abandonment image, barondla! unwanted jewellery.
Great!

Todd, in at the last moment.
Worthy entries! the first one is full of emotion.

This closes the contest #54.

Many great entries!
Now I'll need some ( a lot ) time to come to a decision.
I'll be back
