OK, I blurred the background using photoshop, cropped the image and boosted the color

This one or Todd's are my favorites so far.

Another variation on the theme with some selective coloring.

Laughlady99's entry is going to be hard to beat.

Here's my little quickie... done using Elements 5.

Erased the sign on the ground, because I found it distracting. Created a dupe layer and applied a simple brownish gradient map. Blended the two layers, by reducing the opacity of the gradient layer. Punched up the color in the underlying layer. Flattened the image. Added a touch of Blue to the image using Color Variations. Slightly enhanced the color in the sidewalk & streetlights using Replace Color. Created some texture and color for the area of the sky. Liquefied image to undo and straighten a few camera distortions without having to crop the image. Adjusted levels and contrast of the final image. I could have spent a little more time on it and fixed up a few things, but I'm OK with it as is.

Alright, I'm not leaving till tomorrow morning, so I'll judge this quick. It's definitely been a hard one with so many creative different interpretations.

Honorable mentions - That goes to everyone, everyone did a great job of taking that image and making it their own...

1st place: Anton Magnus, who somehow found this in the picture:

Alright, I was just joking.

It still is Anton with first place with this:

2nd place:

Ivoire with this: or his aliens: I had to study this pic to see exactly what was changed, it was so well done that I didn't notice that box on the sidewalk having been taken away, or the auction sign moving to across the street.

Third place:

I'm indecisive, so I'll make this a 3 way tie of all the other pics I like:

Bart's black & white vintage look:

Taurusek's seedy version:

And Laughlady99's:

(And I really like the rest of them as well - everyone seemed to have a lot of fun & creativity with the image.)

Looking forward to the next contest!
