Pentax Point & Shoot Competition #58

Pentax Point & Shoot Competition #58 - Close-up/Macro
Almost all compact cameras allow us to shoot with a close up focus or macro setting but this can be quite tricky to get good results.
This month lets see what you can do with any subject - flowers, insects, things - but they must be close-ups. Manipulation of image size in PP is also OK so even if your camera has no macro setting you can fudge a good result

Same rules apply

The Rules

1. Have Fun!

2. Cameras:
No cameras with sensors larger than 1"
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use
No interchangeable lens cameras
No 35mm (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1 kg

Cameras permitted (cameras listed as acceptable here supersede rules above)
Fixed-lens 35mm and smaller-format film and digital rangefinder and viewfinder cameras
Interchangeable or Fixed-lens 110 film SLRs and Pentax Q
TLRs, 6x9, 6x7, 6x6 and 6x4.5 Medium Format "Folding", "Box", or "Holga-style" scale focus cameras (subject to 1 kg weight limitation)

3. Entries will close on Sept 30, 2012. Midnight. GMT.

4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels

5. Max of 3 image entries per person, from archives or fresh. Entries may be withdrawn or changed

6. List camera brand, model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.

7. Post processing is fine.

8. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges next competition

9. Have Fun!

Anton

This sounds like a lot of fun! Also sounds like I need to get my W90 out of the shop and possibly additionally get my Optio A40's screen repaired.

I hope so, Unixrevolution. Looking forward to your entries.
I particularly wanted to try getting people out to take a few new pics rather than just scrolling through their archives. To me its taking the pic that adds to the fun.

Three great entries, Bart. I think that image of the wood is wonderful - so gnarly and interesting.

Three from the GRD3, all taken at home, with sharpening and levels in PS to lift them a bit.

1) A pair of old garden gloves I havent put away yet.
2) The reflected base of a glass ornament, sitting on my iphone.
3) A view of Tom's nose, because he wouldnt look into the camera (I think he thinks its going to steal his soul)

I like the gloves, because if you hadn't said what they were, I would have never guessed.

Fun! Here are three from the Oly XZ-1, using its "super-macro" mode. The lens was almost touching the paper... Camera was sitting on my desk, the subject was leaned up against my keyboard, and the flashlight app of my Android phone served as a soft light for the two straight-on shots. Just held it up above while tripping the shutter.

Bonus point for those who recognize the subject item
