Can anyone tell me the lenght of the video recording with X5. I read someone saying it can record up to 25mins regardless of the capacity of the SD card. I need a confirmation as i would like to buy the X5 next week.thanx

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has a new Pentax X5 bridge camera yet?
I'm thinking about getting one for a travel camera, as there's a Hawaii trip planned, and I don't really want to lug the K7 around everywhere. I just sold an X70, and I wasn't impressed with the tiny battery and hard-to-control zoom.
Any thoughts?

I got the X5 and its fantastic. That back lit cmos sensor works really well.

Due to a lack of reviews, and a fear that it might be too similar to the X70 that I wasn't happy with, I'm now considering a Panasonic FZ150 or FZ200 (constant f2.8 zoom!)

For the price, the X-5 looks like a pretty good value for money proposition for someone looking for a super-zoom camera.
From a few reviews and looking at some sample images, I like :-

• The image quality is better than expected from the sensor
• Colors are very crisp and natural
• The EVF is the same as on the X-90 which is OK in general use.
• The tilting LCD is nice
• It is powered by 4 AA batteries which last about 500 shots. I like this.
• It can capture 10 images per second in burst mode, but only at 10MP resolution
• It has the same lens as the X-90 which gave pretty good results

Some points that I don't much like are:-

• Shutter speed is 1/4 sec - 1/1500 (up to 4 sec in night mode) (X-90 is 4 sec - 1/4000)
• Aperture f3.1 - f5.9 (X-90 is f2.8 - f8). I think f2 - f8 or f11 would have been great
• Program & Manual settings, but no quick Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority. I use Av and Tv a lot!
• No time lapse mode as on the X-90. Not often used but nice to have?

Things I really would have liked, but which are missing:-

• A manual zoom control ring on the lens OR a manual focus control ring on the lens
• A RAW option
• Ability to screw filters onto the lens

Overall I don't think its a bad buy for $279. I just wonder if Pentax could not have made this the BEST bridge camera for say $350 instead of the CHEAPEST bridge camera for $279...

The X5 does have time lapse, check your setting or the instruction manual

Now that depends on the size in Gb of your SDHC card.

X5 is a good all-in-one PS camera, and I have one. Have you try the K01 yet? K01 gets way better photo than X5, and the price is not far away from X5.

Its £170 difference in the UK. About 274$ in your money.A very big difference. Then you have to take into account the lenses.

X-5 is now down to 207.98 at US amazon. That's a fine price for what you are getting.
