Ah, that is how it's done

I'll have to let this simmer for a while.

Fine results, Catriona!

Done in PS. The first two I used the 3D settings and also various art filters for each

For my first entry I've decided to do a Collage thing... I hope you like it.

I wanted the drums to pop off the page as if the drummer were breaking free of his canvas, so I extended the drawing, painting the missing pieces onto a new layer using various PS tools as required (paint brushes, stamps, etc). I then created a few new layers for framing etc. I then generated a series of layers for a basic montage, which was then copied onto new layers to create an even bigger montage of layers. So basically the image itself is made up from a bunch of intertwining layers folded onto & into each other. Of course, I also used some hue & saturation techniques on the various layers for color enhancements. It gave me something to do this morning while I was having my morning coffee. Too much caffeine perhaps?

Extending the 3 drums was the hardest part obviously... it's not something that can be accomplished with one click of a mouse.
All work done using Photoshop Elements.

Very creative entries! I see this becoming another difficult competition to judge. Don't forget to give a brief explanation of software and technique(s) used to create your images

A more straightforward approach.

First, I tried to get a better view of the drawing by applying some perspective control.
DxO Viewpoint for this.
Then, I took the result to Color Efex Pro 4. Perhaps a bit of a costly piece of software but I got it for the best possible price: free (legal version).
Here, you can lay 'filters' upon an image until it's changed beyond recognition .
Trick is to not go overboard, I think.

brilliance/warmth, crossprocessing, fog, image borders

a 'recipe' I once cooked up (this is a combination of filters, kind of a preset).
Basically, it adds warmth.

old photo. Again, quite some choices here. I picked a b&w variant

Great Job Bart!
I'm found of the center piece myself... It's a bold image!

Bart

I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but that last shot you put up has a real retro 50's vibe to it... Cool!
