Pretty good production values.

Nicely done ad. I just wish they would show some of the images, whether they were taken by him or someone else. It almost feels as if they are hiding them.

If I liked small sensor cameras, I'd totally grab one of these.

Played with one today, it's quite nice in the hand and very very very easy to use. Pretty much the same Pentax system as any of the DSLRs. Had no problem changing AF modes, ISO, settings, etc.

As opposed to the D600 that I couldn't figure out how to choose single point AF...

PENTAX MX-1 Pro Compact Camera - YouTube
As I watched this video, I had a couple of thoughts that the producers probably did not intend.

First, that seems like one lonely guy.

Second: "Its vintage design is inspiring, ideal for photojournalism, and pays homage to Pentax's prestigous heritage. With time its brass frame will acquire patina and bear witness to those happy moments spent with the camera." This didn't make me want to buy a new MX-1. This made me want to snag a Spotmatic off eBay.

A little deceiving that he holding the lens barrel?? Sort of suggests there's a lens ring focus (which there should have been, but isn't)

Needed some of the images taken to be shown as is the norm in ads like this.

Not a great success as a product ... the fire sale has been "on" since the beginning of the month and is here :

Pentax MX-1 Closeout Sale - Pentax Deals - PentaxForums.com

Only now $199.00, plus free shipping and additional 4% discount card in the States ... flop.

Shame, because it's a fun and capable little camera. I think this again points to the failure of inadequate marketing. We know about it because we follow Pentax, but does anyone else who isn't already committed to the brand?

Will putting on a Ricoh nameplate in a new version increase sales? Would the MX-1 have sold better if it had an optional EVF like the competition and had faster write times?
