Anyone thinking of buying one of these to compliment their DSLR?

Pbase.com has some very interesting pics from the W10.

Only thing I question about these cameras is how good are they underwater and do the seals hold water tight? I would be using mine in the rain, snow etc.. if I bought it.

I have a WPi- it's compact and fun to use, but the picture quality is incomparable to that of DSLRs...

It works underwater to a max. depth of 1 meter, so be careful with that. But at least it's waterproof

It is amazing what one can do with a fixed lense camera. Looking only for a small, affordable camera and the images from the W10 on Pbase are incredible.

I have the W10, having upgraded from a WPI due to the improved image quality - I find the images excellent, except in low light indoors, the macro function is one of the best out there. You can't go wrong, ideal for beach vacations; I swim with it around my neck

Ive used the predecessor to the WP/W10/W20, the Pentax 43WR which is a 4 megapixel water resistant P&S digicam. Its a very nice rugged camera that I used a lot in New Zealand whenever it was wet outside and during kayaking. I just rinsed off the saltwater at the end of the day under the faucet. Once in a while its still found on ebay. Ive read of many problems with the W10 in which the water managed to enter the interior of the camera, causing it to malfunction. Hopefully the W20 will be more reliable in its water resistance.

I got the W10 before my recent trip. I was generally happy with it, though have grown so accustomed to the DS and DL that it's hard to go back to P&Sing. I haven't gotten through all of my pics yet, so haven't processed the pics from the time I mostly used it (swimming and paragliding).

Yes, mine has flodded before, 2 times to be exact. However 1st time (the worst) was due to a friend hitting open the batt compartment (dont ask me how on this one) The second time I don't know what happened. Both times I opened it up, dried it out, and it worked fine. Only problem is 2 internal spots on the lens, but they only show ocasionaly..
The camera is tough, I love it. Perfect for bar-hopping or what ever.
Image quality is not tops, but hey... I can go underwater with it

COOL!
I am planning on getting the new W20 soon. I want ISO 1600 manily (yes I know noisey, but I dont care. I want the shot sometimes w/out flash and a ripod)

The day I bought my DS I also bought a WP. It has been a good p&s that I don't have to worry about. It is primarily used by my wife and it lives in the diaper bag. But it gets out for other things besides the kids, especially on fishing trips. I like the fact that it is sealed and with that comes a zoom lens that is internal. I have seen a good many p&s cameras meet their demise because the lens got a bump and broke the plastic zoom mechanism. When I replace it, if I can't get a waterproof one I will atleast be trying to find one with an internal zoom. They stand up better to kids better. I just so hate not having a viewfinder.

Being waterproof must surely be an advantage since your WP lives in the diaper bag

That little W20 lens requires a lot of light but can take great pictures and video.

Mark Dimo who is into surfing and photography has a gallery in PBase that shows the excellent IQ and ruggednes of the W20 in water environment. Check it out.

Yes, my daughter has the Oly. Image quality is not too bad but the video is terrible. (She thinks otherwise) I bought the W20 because of the smaller footprint and video quality. I seem to get better battery life than she does. Yes, not having a viewfinder took some getting used to and if the sun is directly at your back it's very hard to see. It's been to the south sea islands, Sea of Cortez and in desert dust storms. Still takes great outdoor shots.

Having the same dilemma. Need somrthing I can use a beater when I goto the beach and go snorkelling. Anyone used the W20 underwater for an extensive amount of time?

I am somewhat tempted byt Oly but put off by his high price. Plus I prefer Pentax.

Any real world experience in regards to underwater stuff for an extensive period of time?
