Point & Shoot Competition #68

Topic for this month will be "The Banality of Life". Daily routine can often times make us neglect the beauty of life. For this month, take notice of your surroundings and show us a glimpse of your life through your lens and make the ordinary look extraordinary. Preferably, submissions should be taken this month, but if the following doesn't currently apply to you, feel free to submit something from your archives. Contest will close 11:59 PM on 7/31/13 EST.

Submit a picture of each of the following things you would encounter on a daily basis:
1.) Your daily gear: What do you consider essential for your daily survival. I.E.: things that you have in your pocket, book bag, brief case, etc.
It doesn't have to be the same things you use everyday. It can be items you would bring with you on a random day this month.

2.) Your daily commute: Something you encounter on your commute to/from work, school, or other daily activities. You would not go out of your way to take a picture for this one.

3.) Your workplace: This would be a picture of where you would spend your day doing something important. It can be a view outside the window of your office, the classroom, school campus, desk, etc. If your place of work has a high security clearance or you feel uncomfortable sharing this much information about yourself then you could either submit another picture of one of the above, take a picture of a meal you are having, or an item from your wardrobe for the day.

And if you could (not required), I would appreciate all three submissions be in one post to make easier to keep track. Feel free to edit the post as needed.

The Rules

1. Have fun!
2. Cameras:
No cameras with sensors larger than 1".
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras.
No 35mm(D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.

Cameras permitted ( cameras listed as acceptable here supersede rules above)
Fixed-lens 35mm and smaller-format film and digital rangefinder and viewfinder cameras.
Interchangeable or fixed-lens 110film SLRs and Pentax Q.
TLRs, 6x9, 6x7, 6x6, Medium Format "folding", "box", or "Holga-style" scale focus cameras ( subject to 1kg weight limitation).

3. Entries will close on June 30, 2013 Midnight CST.
4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels.
5. 1 image per camera. Unless you own only 1 applicable camera, then you can post 3 images.

6. List camera brand, model, with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.
7. Post processing is fine, but no heavy processing (e.g. HDR, panorama).
8. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.
9. HAVE FUN!

Don't even try to read what is written on that paper...

This was taken on my commute a few months back with my MX-1. The sky was spectacular but the foreground much more mundane. It was the best I could find without going out of my way.

My entries for this month. With Panasonic FX500.

Fragment of my bicycle From today.

I hope this is not considered too heavy post-processing?
If so, I can tune it down some. Just let me know.

Necessities for breakfast From the archives

I'll see if I can come up with a third entry by the end of the month.

I brought my FX500 to work last Wednesday. I'm always pretty early so, I had plenty of time to take some images.
We work in an old mansion and I had quite a few shots I was pleased with.
Then came the difficult part to pick one to use here
I ended up with this window from the basement.
Just coming back from vacation, it felt appropriately associated with "work"

Locked in?

My Entry

Hello Sam, some nice entries so far!
I guess my situation is slightly different; I just retired and don't have a regular commute or workplace. Most days I go on a photo 'adventure' so my gear would be a DSLR and the day's selection of lenses.
But that doesn't seem fair to have gear shots, besides I posted it last month!
Anyway, a sort of typical morning might be walking to the local store for something I forgot at the supermarket, checking out my neighborhood, maybe having breakfast at a favorite diner. If this generally fits your subject for the month, here's my submission. I took the Pentax I-10 instead of a DSLR, for the competition.
If you feel this strays too far from the intent of this month's competition, no problem, I'll withdraw the post.
1) I see my neighbor's flowers are growing nicely, the rain must have helped. I-10, 12.3mm (equ 71mm), f/5.9, 1/160s, ISO 80, mode macro.
2) Always liked the look of this B + B near Colfax Avenue, nice colors and landscaping. I-10, 5.0mm (28mm equ), f/3.5, 1/100, ISO 80.
3) My breakfast at Pete's Diner. Not too healthy, but tasty! I-10, 5.0mm (28mm equ), f/3.5, 1/50s, ISO 320.

Thanks!

Thanks, Bart.
I'm pretty happy with retirement, even though my income went way down. So did my expenses, but not as much.
It does give me time for photography and other oursuits. All I had to do was work 40+ years! LOL!
