compacts that shoot raw?

Hey there! I'd like to replace the point & shoot my wife's been using when we travel (Nikon S-10) with something that can shoot in raw and has some degree of optical zoom. It'd be extra nice if it was a Pentax, but that's not a vital requirement. I'd rather not spend a ton of money on it - a few years old and used is fine. I'm mostly tired of trying to fix the white balance on JPGs. And she refuses to use anything big (even the S-10 is larger than she'd prefer), or I'd just get a second DSLR body or a k-01. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap compact that shoots raw and has decent quality?

Thanks!

A Pentax Q with at least the standard zoom? I don't know if that is small enough but it shoots RAW, has nice controls and simply is really fun to use.

The Olympus M43 makes a raw file .ORF
Has native zoom lenses, although I don't have any here.

My Canon S90 shoots RAW -- one of the reasons I got it. They have had several models since then (S95, S100, S120 about to come out) in that series that also shoot RAW. Also the G series Powershots also do RAW I think. But the S models are tiny tiny -- Q size w/o lens. Zoom is not huge though...

Would also say about the Canon S90. Nice, small, Raw is good, high quality pictures from it. Agree with vonBaloney about it. Pic quality is about the same as the Q (better in low light as it's got a special mode).

Here are a bunch of Canon's that you can shoot raw with, if you use CHDK...

It's not cheap, but I just picked up a Sony RX-100 M2. Shoots raw files, has a 35mm equivalent 28-100 lens, and I'm absolutely stunned by the image quality of a camera that fits in my shirt pocket. It'll dent your wallet but for me it was worth it.

The Sony RX100 is really nice, but it's also a bit pricey. However, now that they've released a mark 2 version, the old one may be available used for less.

Thanks guys. The only interchangeable she'd do is with a pancake and then she wouldn't be able to zoom. I've recommended the S90 plenty of times for other people and never actually owned one myself. Maybe that's the way to go. Used they seem to be going for 70-130 on ebay depending on what comes with them. I've always wanted to play around with CHDK for lightning and so on.

The Canon G series (G9, G10, G12, G15, etc) shoot in RAW.
