Pentax Compact Camera Post Processing Contest #19

Pentax Compact Camera Post Processing Contest #19
After the Holiday season, a quiet place might look inviting.
Or is there something lacking?

The Rules
1. Have Fun!
2. Use any Post Processing Software and techniques.
3. Entries will close on January 31th, 2014, at midnight GMT.
4. Maximum image dimensions for entries are 1024x768 pixels
5. Max of 3 image entries per person. Entries may be withdrawn or changed
6. List software used, as well as your method, with your entry so we can all learn.
7. There are no limits or restrictions - make the subject image into whatever you want!
But please do not copy or alter other entries....
8. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date, and judge’s the next competition.
9. Have Fun!

I have retrieved an image from the archives that could use some excitement
Lots of empty spaces...

Let's see your enhancements!

Excuse me a moment. That photo was shot using a Panasonic FX500. How does this possibly qualify as a Pentax Compact Camera Post Processing Contest

Don't worry, Steve!
These "contests" are about post processing the image provided by the host.
It is of no consequence what compact camera produced the image.

("Pentax" in the titles refers to forum)

Go ahead and show us your post processing prowess.
Not forgetting Rule 1 and 9 of course

I don't like to argue, and I was all ready to have a play with PP until I downloaded your image & checked the EXIF, but Bart - this thread is in the ' Pentax Cameras → Pentax Compact Cameras' section which implies a Pentax camera. It is, therefore totally unrelated, and why would I want to process a non-Pentax camera output? That's not why I buy into the Pentax brand or come to a 'Pentax' forum, and neither does it help others see what can be done with their Pentax shot images.

Then I'd suggest the thread is moved to Digital Processing, Software, and Printing forum. Sorry, but it just doesn't sit right at all with me and I'm surprised the moderators allow it.

As you can see, this is already the 19th run of this little contest, Steve.
That's 19 months.

Rule 8 says: Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date, and judge’s the next competition.

There might be a way for you to have it your way

Also, you might have a look at this months instalment of another of our favourite contests: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/7-pentax-compact-cameras/247270-point-sho...4-windows.html

74 months running and not limited to Pentax cameras either.

Yeh, makes no sense does it. Come to a Pentax forum, read a Pentax compact camera sub forum, look at photos from other cameras, where's the logic in that?
Same with that rediculous K-3 thread (you know the one I mean), for goodness sakes.
But, I concede - though I'm entitled to an opinion so I'll let it stand.

So here's my three entries on processing the FX500 image as supplied.
My software of choice is Lightroom, my methods are pretty random on single photos and in this case I just fiddled until I arrived at something I liked.
Sometimes I'll use a saved presets and then re-adjust from there.
Hope these are suitable.

Steve, you can go anyway you like with this!

Me for instance, if only for the lack of knowledge/software for the kind of photo manipulation ivoire has demonstrated, I limit my entries to working on colours, crop, contrast, aging, filmemulations, b&w conversions, etc.
The 'normal' stuff. Nothing wrong with that.

I for one like the work you've done. Especially the 1st and 2nd image that give a film-like effect to the image.
Anyway, you can change or replace your entries up to the closing date if you wish.

Thanks, todd!

Ivoire, I see you're walking on the wild side
Really creative!
Nice to see you back!

Bart... happened to open up this thread and saw your pic. My local train station looks very similar and the zoo is about 6 stops away. Couldn't resist a bit of 'monkey' bizness

Stick around Steve. I too like your first image. It has a very cool 'cinema quality' to it. I just decided to fill in some of Barts "empty spaces". And don't forget rules #1 & #9.

Thought I'd give it the aged polaroid look using several of the Nik filter effects and squaring it up with the edit/transform/distort tool in pshop with a touch of "stiff upper lip"

[/IMG]

and the last using several Nik filters and a crop to eliminate some of those empty spaces

Thanks Bart.... most of our railroads pass thru some very "gritty" areas. Thought i'd try for that look

I particularly enjoyed your wild ape interpretation, ivoire!

I really liked the straight verticals and horizontal lines in this photo and so decided to highlight them with a graphic approach. Used Topaz simplfy, with a hard pencil on black preset.
