We'll see. I for one hope there is a replacement...

Move the lugs and add some sort of manual control to the lens barrel, too, please. Zoom, preferably, but I'd take focus. Thanks a bunch. ;-)
I agree with all of what you said.

1. Move the lugs. I am not sure why this made it out the gate. It just hangs weird. I moved to a simple wrist strap for this reason.
2. Manual Control on the lens. My friend has a Fuji x20 and I absolutely love the zooming feature of this lens. I wish this was available on the MX. Bonus... If you can squeeze a manual focus on there as well all the better.

They matched the original lugs but it makes the camera aim up if its on a neck strap.

Maybe the original had more weight to it.

The original was pointing in the same direction .
More weight won't change anything since it will still be out of balance.

The MX-1 is an odd camera to walk around with. Uncomfortable around your neck, no finger grip to securely hold, slightly too large to put in your pocket.

I still love it though.

lol me too, it was a Christmas present (to myself) last year. Got sick of carrying my DSLR around and this was perfect.

Nope. There will be no MX-2. Ricoh already has a high-end compact in the GR series. Pentax is for SLRs, and Ricoh had better get busy with that.

I absolutely love my MX-1. It takes wonderful photos and I adore the brass plates and retro design. I'm so pleased with it I was contemplating purchasing another and putting it on my shelf as a backup. I paid $250 back in April, which is a steal. Unfortunately the prices I see now are considerably higher than that. Given that I'll probably just take extra care with the one I have. Wouldn't mind seeing what an MX-2 looks like though.

The Olympus XZ2 would be a good substitute. But what would you buy, if neither is available anymore? I'm not convinced of the Sony RX100 or the Pany LX100 - both very expensive and not really better. The only upgrade would be m43 or DSLR.

The MX-1 is still available, but the price has gone up since there isn't as much inventory left after being discontinued. I saw it on sale online yesterday new for $396. That is a reasonable price, just not as good as it was earlier in the year. I probably won't by a second one at that price but if I didn't have one yet I would definitely consider it. The only caveat is the unknown about whether a new version may come out. I really like the bright fast 1.8-2.5 lens of the MX-1 since I never use a flash. It's an excellent camera. Really happy with it.

Here is a comparison review of the MX-1 vs the RX100. It's what convinced me to buy the Pentax:
