How can this work when the lens barrel extends so far from the ring??
Besides, the MX-1 doesn't have anything on the lens ring which is magnetic.

As I understand it, there is a circular magnetic bit you attach to the front of the lens housing (the bit that sticks out). Then the circ filter attaches to that. American friends? I believe Blunty used the mag filter on the MX-1

I did a little research and it looks like the magnetic ring sticks with double-sided tape to the actual lens barrel then the magnetic filter holder attaches to that which has the thread for filters.
This chap uses a 42mm ring on his MX-1 though my calipers put the actual diameter at 39mm.

It's the 42mm one. Unfortunately, the metal ring that glues to the lens only makes contact with the outer ridge of the lens barrel, but this is easily solved by cutting a ring of double sided tape that fits inside the ridge.

Haven't seen Blunty use it on the MX-1 though, though he does on the XZ-1.

You have to be careful, some prices are for the filter only, the adapter is another cost.
Most I saw on eBay au come from the UK and are well over AUD$100
