FWIW, when I wrote the original version of the rules for the cameras allowed, the 1" sensor was the limit for digitals, and 35mm was the limit for fixed-lens film cameras. I had NOT intended to allow e.g. Ricoh GR, Fuji X100, etc.

Of course, the judge makes the rules, so whatever barondla says is kosher goes. I just tried, when I revised the rules to the version that we're still copypasting, to outline what I thought were the best compromises.

It looks like this month everyone decided to check out the compacts forum, judging by how many people already posted to this thread and to the PP thread. That can only be a good thing

These are my entries for this month.

First, a waterfall behind my office building.

The next two are from one of my favorite places to take pictures - downtown Roswell, GA. I just happen to drive past every day on my way to/from work, so if I have a few minutes to spare, I might stop and take some pictures.

It was early but the sun was already shining on the porch of this house decoration store:

And at the same store, they had some flowers outside, and I decided to see if the RZ18 can do bokeh. It can! But focus was an issue. All other pictures ended up being either slightly or very much out of focus (and I used the macro mode, with almost exactly the same magnification...)

Edit: forgot to add that these were all taken with my Pentax Optio RZ18, not just the last one.

Strong entries in the contest already!

I had hoped to add a shot of our first rose but as my camera is not waterproof and the rain keeps pouring down today...

So, I selected these three.

Panasonic DMC-FX500, f/5.2 @ 14.1 mm, 1/320, ISO 100

Panasonic DMC-FX500, f/2.8 @ 4.4 mm, 1/80, ISO 100

Panasonic DMC-FX500, f/5 @ 4.4 mm, 1/800, ISO 160

Spring is behind schedule this year. Desperate for some fresh new greenery it took these shots yesterday evening in my back yard with my trusty little MX-1. I love this camera for its "macro" settings.
