Ricoh WG-4 or Nikon AW1

My wife wants a camera to do underwater pics and bids with in the pool. Im wondering which camera between WG-4 and AW1 would do better. The WG-4 has an aperture of f/2 at the wide end which might allow it to get brighter vids under water but AW1's sensor might have better ISO. Then what about SR? I know the AW1 lenses don't have VR but does WG-4 SR work in video mode?

Well the AW1 is of a different caliber- it's a interchangeable lens camera with full manual controls, a larger sensor, and much faster processing, so you'll be able to take higher-quality photos with it and also do a bit of high-speed shooting. It's also much more pricey and not quite as rugged.

The WG-4 has digital SR in movie mode and sensor-shift for stills. After reviewing it, I wouldn't consider its video features stellar, but it does get the job done. I think a fairer comparison would be the AW 120, which has a few more video options and is cheaper than the AW-1 (and WG-4):

I was considering an AW-1, but I realized that every "waterproof" camera I ever used underwater has failed within about a year. I've been able to dry the p&s and keep using them (above water), but I would worry greatly about the AW-1 and total failure. Several reviews I found mentioned leaks, as well, so it isn't just superstition. I love the idea but I will stick with a p&s for underwater for now. I got a WG-3, and it works pretty well.

I would never trust a camera underwater without a full housing. That being said I much rather have a 150 dollar camera fail than a 1000 dollar one fail. Even better put a wr PNS in camera drybag that way u have 2 layers of protection. Camera seals fail either through time or debris compromising the seal
