Digital Zoom off ! For Pete's sake!!

<rant level="4">
Does anyone else find it exceedingly annoying that Digital Zoom is re enabled on the MX-1 each time you boot it up??
Especially irksome for Video mode where I don't want to use Digital zoom, in fact I NEVER want to use digital Zoom. With the exception of a 'Users' mode the damn thing seems to be always enabled unless you go into the menu and disabled it EVERY TIME!

This (and other minor gripes) is where a firmware update has been needed for the MX-1. A fabulous camera, but with a few niggles.
Damn you RICOH, support your customers will ya!? </rant>

Weird. My wife's Optio remembers this setting OK. Doesn't the MX-1 have a 'stop' before going to digital zoom though? In the optio, you need to hold the zoom button down for a second before it goes into digital zoom.

I don't think this is a camera issue- at least not one I observed when using it. I'm not 100% sure about the exact naming, but there should be a checkbox corresponding to the zoom setting in the memory menu (under the record tab). This will get the camera to remember your preference after being turned off.

Oh for heavens sakes!! LOL..
How embarrassing..
But honestly, why is this even necessary? Check or UNcheck digital zoom, CLEARLY that's the preference, why the need for another drill down menu (4 clicks) to tell it to remember I chose to disable it! Arrrgh..

Thanks Adam...

The same reason users must "enable aperture ring".

Not at all similar, this is the MX-1 fixed lens camera. Not a K-Mount

In that it is a feature you always want on/off, but they have it backwards...
