should i turn on the electronic shutter in my pentax mx-1

And what does it do? and do photos look better?

You get a faster shutterspped - up to 1/8000s whereas the mechanical shutter only gives you 1/2000s.

This means you can freeze fast movement. But it also allows you to control depth of field better because you can use larger apertures even in bright light. All this requires that you use an exposure mode where you set shutter speed or aperture manually, like Av and Tv mode.
