What, exactly, is a "Programmed AE electronic lens shutter"?

The specs indicate this is the type of shutter the MX-1 uses but what does that mean. Is it an electronically controlled leaf shutter within the lens?

Yes. These types of shutters are fairly common in higher-end compacts.

Cool, thanks. I thought there had to be a physical shutter (I was sure I was hearing a difference when I enabled "electronic" shutter) especially considering the original pricing.
