WG-3 seal

I've had mine for a little over a year now and have used it kayaking, white water rafting in Costa Rica, etc... and has been great but I was reading through the manual before my next trip (Cozumel) and I got concerned that Pentax says the waterproof seal in the battery compartment should be changed yearly by Pentax. Has anyone had one for a length of time without replacing it? I would hate to bring that as my only camera and have it flood.

The WG-3 has a much beefier latch and seal than the older W versions. As long as you soak cam in fresh water & keep the seal clean you should be ok. I like to use a very light "oil" to lube the seal periodically. It's called "nose grease" (also ear grease) - seriously you just rub a finger around your ear or nose (NOT inside), then lightly coat the rubber. (Incidentally this was a method to cover up scratches on negatives in the film era - it's a very fine waxy oil!)
