Is the Pentax XG-1 really a Kodak?

Not a complaint as all camera manufactures do this at some point, buy I've noticed an uncanny resemblance between the Pentax XG-1 and the Kodak Pixpro-AZ521.

Kodak PIXPRO AZ521 Bridge Camera Review

Which makes me think, did Ricoh/Pentax make the Kodak Camera or did JK Imaging make the Pentax one?

I don't think so...Pentax version has a ring for adjusting stuff, Kodak doesn't...

Nyope.

Asia Optical makes them for both companies. See also the WG-M1 (available in Kodak, JVC, and many other company colors), and go back in time to MX-1 (available as an Olympus XZ-2, etc.) along with too many of the old compact cameras to count. This is how they squeeze a profit out of these cameras, and why so many manufacturers have identical (or nearly so) offerings...

Thanks Panoguy.

Well that explains why I always felt a bit strange when I've seen this camera! The entire user interface just felt wrong.

Right, it's not JK Imaging. Except maybe indirectly - by being the frst to request that design.

Interestingly Ephotozine has reviewed both, so its easy to see the difference in image quality.....or not.

Pentax XG-1 Bridge Camera Review

Kodak PIXPRO AZ521 Bridge Camera Review

Just had a quick look but I seem to prefer the colours from the Kodak!

The XG-1 is identical to the Kodak Pixpro AZ522 and not the AZ521. I've shot both and they are very good small sensor bridge cams. Sadly my XG-1 has focus problems and is being returned.
