hi there,
I hesitated long time before buying one because of being dissapointed in the past with a p&s quality.
Tomek pictures drew me accross the line & i got one since last week.
It is a really nice little camera... It really calls you to be creative, though i haven't had much time with it..

fyi, i got it for 200euro. Which is well below what the official price was. And actually, i've seen one last week going for 175euro in a local shop.
I know one online for sale in the UK for 180gbp i think it was.

the ebay prices go much higher.
don't know how come...
But it is not worth paying too much either. Better off buying a brand new x30 then in my opinion..

don't know if worth it buying from the UK for you, but otherwise i can get you the link if it is still available...
cheers
@grispie, if I show you the bokeh I get from Nikon Coolpix L340 which has a smaller senzor (no manual control) than MX-1, or the photos I do with Panasonic DMC-FS42 which has even a smaller sensor (no manual control), you would buy those too? An X30 would have been an amazing investment, with great 1cm macro along with fantastic film simulations.

I'm not sure what the question is here?
A camera like the mx1 is not really about bokeh, although it can be done. But it's more about general IQ and the pleasure of using it.

You bought it based on a photo show, a gallery, which is ok, we all do. But you had to see a gallery of X30 photos as well.
What you said is even more true for the camera you didn't bought.

well, the mx1 was 2ndhand and at a good price and i'm hooked on pentax menu. the x30 was too expensive at that moment at least.
I've handled the x30 and shot some pics with it. Very nice camera. But for me it doesn't really have more to offer than the mx1, so i wasn't planning to add on the extra cash..

ps: & in comparison to the models you mentioned, i wanted raw available.
Not sure if that answers your question :-)

Rest assured that those models are a nightmare compared to any manual P&S camera. I would gladly have traded a raw image feature for at least aperture control .
