Hello to all the MX-1 fans here.

First, let me congratulate Tomek on what are truly outstanding photographs. I am full of admiration and I feel that he (or she?, I am not sure) would make beautiful images with ANY camera.

However, I do have a question about the availability and pricing of the MX-1 camera. I am on this forum because, yes, I AM a Pentax fan and because the MX-1 seems to be the kind of camera that would suit me. BUT....according to my online searching it seems now to be much more expensive than it once was. (I mean nearly doubled in price!)

My question is, why is that? I usually assume that products out of production become cheaper as the clock ticks.

Does anyone feel that the market price will come down in the near term? I am now retired and have to live frugally.

hi there,
I hesitated long time before buying one because of being dissapointed in the past with a p&s quality.
Tomek pictures drew me accross the line & i got one since last week.
It is a really nice little camera... It really calls you to be creative, though i haven't had much time with it..

fyi, i got it for 200euro. Which is well below what the official price was. And actually, i've seen one last week going for 175euro in a local shop.
I know one online for sale in the UK for 180gbp i think it was.

the ebay prices go much higher.
don't know how come...
But it is not worth paying too much either. Better off buying a brand new x30 then in my opinion..

don't know if worth it buying from the UK for you, but otherwise i can get you the link if it is still available...
cheers

Thanks very much for your information, grispie.

I think I shall wait to see how the price situation develops.

You're right, but the MX-1 is no longer produced for a long time. Unfortunately, because it is a very good camera and Ricoh no announces new MX

Hello Tomek,

Thank you for the clarification over your first name. I had guessed it might be the Polish equivalent of the English (or German) Thomas but I wasn't sure.

Regarding the current average price of the MX-1, I am inclined to be patient to see what the future holds for the camera market. After all I am being kept very happy at the moment with an Olympus Stylus S mju: my sister gave it to me 5 years ago. It is a 2005 vintage camera and I have enjoyed taking thousands of photographs with it!

Thanks again and keep up your excellent work with your MX-1.

This is from a trip we took to Delaware a few weeks ago to visit some family. I have to admit that I don't take the MX-1 out all that often but it never disappoints. A very handy little package. I do wish that it had an optical viewfinder for those bright sunny days,
