You can use the button on Theta to take pictures or shoot video. I assume that the button on the camera takes the picture in "Auto" more. You would need the app to make any kind of changes such as HDR, ISO, Shutter speed etc., Also, you can't trigger it from a distance without the app. You can't set up timelapse or review the photos without the app. Honestly, I would not recommend buying it if you are not using the app.

Here's a few more from a nice ride in a little town in NC.

I was unsure if this camera would shoot decent pictures while the truck was moving, I simply held my arm straight up and pushed the button while driving. It turned out pretty good if you ask me.

Pretty good, indeed! You're like your own Google StreetView vehicle. :-)

The last two are pretty interesting. Bet you can't wait for some blue skies and puffy white clouds! Those overcast, dull gray days are pretty gloomy for the Theta, in my experience.

Faroe islands make their own street view with Ricoh theta (S?) cameras. But arent the videos suppose to be stabilized and better quality?

More competition in the 360 camera market. This time a camera smaller then Theta S, less then half the price, 1440p 30 fps video and higher still resolution. I don't know if the app can compare.
