Two Images from a Vacation in Turkey in 2004

From the late 1990s till about 2009 I took exclusively black and white photos with a variety of cameras. My primary instrument was a Rolleiflex twin lens reflex - the first with a Zeiss Tessar f3.5 lens which took these pictures. (The model was a Rolleiflex 3.5 MX-EVS Type 2.) The photos were recorded on Agfa APX 100 film. The negatives were scanned on an Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner using VueScan software. The resulting .dng files were manipulated using Lightroom 6.3.

I cheerfully accept that a column drum is not necessarily a wheel - but it looks like one!

Hope you enjoy the images.

Richard

Great entries, Richard!

The first one reminds me of all the western movies I saw as a kid.

Second one looks like a cam wheel

Great image!
The absence of something can certainly provoke the thought about the item.

Well, this installment of the competition has almost reached it end.
A few hours left to participate.

It's been bugging me, but since looking at this image I've been trying to think who's style it reminds me of, and it just came to me... Stephen Shore. I think some of it is to do with the colours and saturation levels, as well as the composition. Anyhow, if you can come up with something that evokes that kind of mood and sense of place with a P&S camera, you're doing something right! Actually, now I think about it, Shore used a little Rollei 35mm for some of his earlier work, but still...

First of all, I want to congratulate all the participants.
We got all kinds of wonderful interpretations of this months theme, resulting in a really enjoyable thread. And that is what these are all about after all.

Ok. Here we go.

After long and difficult deliberation, I came to the following picks - based solely on my personal and hence subjective preferences.

3rd place, a desolate interpretation of the theme with the - almost - absence of the subject.

Chelan wildfires by John

I wonder if some of the participants became aware of my 'slight' preference for b&w

2nd place goes to a really free interpretation of Wheel.
Richards column drum

And finally, the 1s place goes to a straight forward image of "wheels".
A beautiful (film) b&w, the little guy admiring the custom car, by Bill.

Extra congratulations to the winners!

Thanks again to all the participants and lets meet again in the next installment.

You're up, Bill!
