Point & Shoot Competition # 108 - Music

Welcome to the January 2017 contest - "Music". Anything related to music is acceptable - a singer, an instrument, a radio, your old 8 track player (yeah, I'm old enough to have owned one). Anything even remotely associated to music will do. Looking for some imaginative ideas to start off the new year.

Same contest rules as usual :

1. Have lots of fun!
2. Cameras:

No cameras with sensors larger than 1".
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras.
No 35mm (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.

Cameras permitted (cameras listed as acceptable here supersede rules above):

Mobile phones, old and new, iPods, tablets, toy cameras.
Fixed-lens 35mm and smaller-format film and digital rangefinder and viewfinder style cameras.
Interchangeable or fixed-lens 110film SLRs and Pentax Q.
TLRs, 6x9, 6x7, 6x6, Medium Format "folding", "box", or "Holga-style" scale focus cameras ( subject to 1kg weight limitation).

ANY CAMERA BRAND ALLOWED.

3. Entries will close on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Midnight (EST).

4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels.
5. List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.

6. No restrictions on when the entries were taken.
7. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.

8. Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest closing date/time.

Toneless

We place stuff we want to get rid off, but which might still be usable to others, in front of the garbage bin. People passing by then know they can take it without asking. Next day it was gone. I played a bit with colors. Taken with my Sony Cybershot F717

Off to an early great start with two nice images. I especially like the near monochromatic green look of the guitar. Good for you to recycle your unwanted things - "One man's trash is another man's treasure".

I'll enter these two interpretations of the bandstand in my village. Not in use as a bandstand anymore.
All with Panasonic FX500
4.4 mm (26 mm equivalent) Exposure 1/8 at f/2.8 ISO 800

In the following shot, the ornament above the window is inspired by a piano keyboard

11.3 mm (67 mm equivalent) Exposure:1/100 at f/4.9 ISO 100

Nice photos, normally I'm all in for B&W, but in the case of the bandstand I like the colored one better, it has more power. I really love the photo of the Jugendstil window. Seems to me it was taken in France because that's where you would find these things most I think.

Funny how we all interpret things differently. I preferred the B&W version of the bandstand. The window is a terrific shot and I don't know if I would have immediately recognized it as a piano keyboard. Great eye, Bart.
Never heard of Jugendstil windows so I did some "googling" and once again learned something from hanging around PentaxForums ; doesn't always have to be photography related.

Wonderful entries - keep 'em coming.

Thanks!

The fact that I entered the colour version as well says a lot for me

The window is in Maldegem Really close to the Dutch border.
Usually, we refer to the style as Art Nouveau. The "upper class" over here was French speaking in that time period.

I really like you gitar image, Titia.
The image and the idea as well.

LOL I just drove through Maldegem this morning on my way to the AZ St. Jan hospital in Bruges. Next time I'll drive by this house on my way back. In The Netherlands we use both terms, Jugendstil or Art Nouveau. It's my favorite style along with Art Deco which I love even better.

Must've been the late hour when I commented on the bandstand, now I look at it again I do prefer the B&W too.

Les Finnigan, recognized by many who have visited Granville Island in Vancouver. Image from almost 10 years ago - he hadn't quite worn a "Trigger" sized hole in his guitar yet (a la Willie Nelson), but he was well on his way.

Certainly not instruments you see everyday. And don't forget the accordionist. I'd like to hear their sound.

Makes me think about all the talented people who are just waiting for that one break. It's a fine line.

These are some fine pics, but not really in the theme of our monthly contest, "Music". Feel free to send in a few more reflecting "Music" and join in the fun.
