Ricoh GR2 Problems.

I am happy with my new GR but for 2 frustrating problems;
1) I use Elements 7 (I'm too stingy to update), but it cannot recognize dng files from the GR, I have no problems with my old GRd(mk1) or Pentax dng files. I have to use a dng converter to import raw files from the GR.
2) The firmware version is V1.10. No matter how carefully I follow the instructions, my Ricoh will not convert to version 3. What am I missing ?

These troubleshooting points should hit on the firmware issue (remember that the GR series uses .frm files rather than .BIN):

Make sure you're downloading the firmware from the official Japanese site, rather than out-of-date global sites.

As for PSE, I'd suggest waiting until the latest version (or last year's) goes on sale (should cost you around £40) so you can get access to the latest raw converter. Otherwise, you could switch to open source converters such as dcraw (rawtherapee).

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I have been trying to update from the official Ricoh site.
I have tried to do it through the USB cable and the card reader, tried different cards, had the in family techie try , all to no avail.
My next question is, without the V3 update will the latest PSE recognize my raw files?
I use the Adobe converter for my Panasonic cameras so it's no hardship to do the same with the GR.
I'm very happy with the GR and the results I get from it, so maybe it'll be a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Try to update the firmware directly from the memory card, without using usb cable and card reader.

Mine updated without any drama, Richard. Do check the contents of the card, to see if you've made a mistake.
