Here are a couple of shots that made themselves today. It kayak fishing a new spot , a nice quiet peaceful place. Lots of trees , and lots of them well past their expiration date. And, being here in the Pacific NorthWet of course there a lots of dead trees in the lake, and enough to actually form lush floating islands that drift about from place to place. Long story short, one pic is old wood above the water, mostly. The second pic is old, soggy wood still supporting lot of life.

Both taken with Samsung Galaxy S9 phone. But one of these days I would like to do the place with just cameras!

I'am so exited. First competition since 30 years.
Some pictures from our holiday last week from a beach in tuscany.
I like the smooth look of sand polished driftwood.

The camera is a 10 MP Olympus XZ-1 from around 2011, that I bought used some weeks ago. I allways use digital compacts when on holiday.
Sadly the camera tends to overexposure. Something you only can see after transfering the picturs to the pc.
All pictures OOC just resized.

Oh WOW, thanks for all the beautiful entries. I'm in for a hard time judging I fear. I'm off for a four day sheep inspection trip up North in my country. See you all next week again.

Papa Joe, those are really nice! You’re right about the Oly and exposures, I have struggled with that for a long time with mine... Using fill flash helps.

Thank you Jim, for your appreciation. And thank you for your hint how to operate the Oly. I had a look at some of it's pictures where I used a fill in flash and it seems to work, amazing. I will explore this further.

Thank you very much Bart! I am happy you like it!

Actually I did a lot of shoots showing only the log, the water and the waves rolling it around, nothing really satisfying.
The picture was my attemp to get closer to show more of the structure of the wood (as asked for). The people and the umbrellas in the back came unintentionally into the picture.
