Point and Shoot Competition #148 - Life's good

Sorry for somewhat delayed start of the competition, but here it is. This month's theme is "Life's good."

I'm a bit overwhelmed by things going on around the globe as well as in my small town right now, and I desperately want to see pictures showing that life is something positive despite everything, or maybe because of everything. I'll leave the interpretation to you, you could show me a part of your life or some living thing that is beautiful/funny/strange/whatever, and of course unexpected curve balls are welcome too. Send me some positive vibes!

Rules are mostly the same in spirit as last month:

Rule 1: Always have fun!

Rule 2, Cameras:
Grand rule is that a qualifying camera should be compact, and let's say fit in a pocket of some garment you own or have owned at some time, and some pockets are bigger than others! I'm not getting out a tape measure...
As far as the grand rule is met,
  • Fixed lens cameras regardless of the sensor size and medium (digital or film) qualify.
  • Digital interchangeable lens cameras with the sensor size equal to or smaller than 1" qualify, but no "adapted" lenses are allowed.
  • Mobile phones, tablets and any 110 film cameras are allowed.
Rule 3, Submission details:
Entries will close on July 31, 2020 midnight PDT.
Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest closing date/time.
List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.
No restrictions on when the entries were taken.
Judgment will be based on the pictures displayed in the forum, and the maximum image dimensions displayed are 1024x768 (ish) pixels. You could link to a larger sized image hosted elsewhere, but that larger image won't be used for judgment.
Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures!!!

I'll start it off
Nikon Coolpix A - still a cool camera with an APSC sensor like the one in the K5. Might be the same sensor actually. 18.5mm F2.8 lens. I used Luminar 4 to replace the sky which makes it so easy! Look at the job it did in the trees.

Here's the original and it's a little boring

Just had to have the upper acre above my old farm house mowed to take down all the weeds which are a fire hazard. The man who did it - José - who we call don José out of respect - has been driving his weatherbeaten John Deere tractor around for several decades doing hard work and somehow managing to smile about it. He came by at 6 in the morning to do the job - but when he had finished, he regaled us with stories and laughter. And when he smiles, it is infectious.

Taken with my compact pocketable Fujifilm X30 camera, at f/4, 1/450 of a second, ISO 100, and processed in Nik's Silver Efex.

Thanks for a great start, John and MiguelATF!

John, the original is far from "a bit boring", it's apparent from the picture that people are really enjoying evening light softly illuminating Mt. Rainier and Seattle!
(But background replacement is impressive anyway. Did you have to do some manual masking job?)

MiguelATF, thanks for sharing your story! You successfully captured his smile and energy in this portrait, I'm getting infected!

I've selected three images from the coast, from different times.
The coast is one of my favourite places, outside of the tourist season that is.

gone fishing

on the pier
Panasonic FX500, 20.5mm (121mm equivalent),1/800 at f/7.1, ISO 160

a walk on the beach

Great entries all around!
It's also quite interesting to see what makes life good or other people.

Thanks Bart, great series, and good use of 120-130mm (FF equivalent) telephoto range! I'll remember to try it myself in the future!

LOL thanks barondla! Lots of interesting geometrical elements in the frame!
(Without Budweiser I wouldn't have had any idea that Clydesdale is a breed of horses, so some points to Bud too, even though it's not my choice of beer .)

Thanks David, this boosts my morale . Good meals and a bottle of your preferred beverage will do wonders to your mental state (well it's the case for me at least)!

All, you still have a week! Enter if you haven't done so, I'll be waiting!

Looks tasty. Bastille Day reminds me the Tour de France should be well under way. Sigh, I like to see the countryside and buildings almost as much as the race.

Thanks,
