Pentax Q7 with #04 wideangle. Tried to give this a little bit of green army men look. Had to shoot this quick. We've had a 25% reduction in my department at work the last 2 weeks. Illness, job transfers, and people leaving town for summer. It has been brutal.

Thanks,
barondla

really creative processing, barondla!

I wish you lots of strength to get through the difficult period on your job.
I understand the difficulty. I work in a small group where there's just 1 other person within my speciality.

Thanks. We went from 12 people to 8 and it wasn't planned. Trying to hire more people. One returned from surgery yesterday. Hope things stay good for you Bart. Not easy being only one of two. Guess it's good job security though.

Processing was in PSE. Used slight posterization. Thought it would be better than in camera, about the same and more work.
Thanks,
barondla

"Disk Jockey" pinball machine, which was displayed back to back with a jukebox if I remember correctly, shot with google pixel 3.

This was a part of an exhibition of American industrial design or some such at San Francisco Airport in 2019.
Nice shot, kwb !
And I really like the w-i-d-e angle and perspective.

Just a quick reminder to everyone: today, Saturday, is May 29th - so there are still two full days and nights remaining to submit entries to this Competition!

Cool effect going well with the subject! Oh wait, I only recognize Wonder Woman, what is she battling with? A burger-man armed with a bar bell?

BTW I hope you can take some days off soon, barondla. Take care.

Thanks Miguel! Here's another one.

Between-innings "horse" race in a minor league baseball game in 2018, so this was like a game in a game. I was surprised to see decent turnout despite smokes from wild fire. Pentax Q7 and 08 wide zoom.
The kid in navy blue shirt was almost winning, but he fell in the last yard or so and the red kid won. But these are just friends coming to the ball park together so I'm sure they were able to share the prize, which I think was a free season ticket for hot dog stand or something like that.

A quick announcement for everyone - today is June 1 and that means this month's Competition - about Playing and Games - is officially closed. Official judging and results will be published in the very near future (hopefully!).

There weren’t many entries in this competition, but all of them are interesting – and worthy of multiple viewings.

I like Bart’s board-game shot. It looks like what I imagine a futuristic version of the giant life-sized chessboard in Alice in Wonderland might look like – if the game was being played by futuristic travelers from a distant galaxy. It’s mysterious – but the mystery seems offset by the normalcy of parts of the background. Cool effect.

I also love the idea of a game called, “If it’s Tuesday, this must be Belgium’. I think it would be fun to start an entire photo thread devoted to the game, although that might be a bit tricky. I like the contrast between all those people packed like sardines into the boat beneath the bridge where only one or two are standing.

I really love the fishing photograph, too, Bart – but I suspect some fishermen or fisher-persons might take offense if you called fishing a ‘game’. On the other hand, many might laugh and agree with you!

Vendee’s Monopoly + Chess shot is quite cool. It also suggests a fantasy universe (Alice in Wonderland, anyone?) where giant clear Chess Pieces must face off against the classic cars, boats, hats, shoes and dogs from Monopoly. It’s an image which stimulates my brain cells as well as entertains my eyes.

kwb's Pinball shot – of a Pinball machine on display in an ultra-wide-angle shot of a section of the San Francisco airport which happens to be framed on either side by moving pedestrian walkways really took me by surprise. I kept coming back to look at it, again and again, and each time I saw something a little different. One of the (many) things I like about it is how an ordinary ‘game’ – a pinball machine – can be transformed into a combination sculpture – slash educational exhibit – inside an airport which is nothing if not filled with technology. Old tech on display in a new tech universe. And as anyone who’s ever played Pinball knows, it can be a very addictive game.

barondla's close-up of the tiny Wonder Woman doll, between a gigantic thumb and fingers, is interesting for many reasons, and not just the stylized processing which really works to make the image stand out. It definitely earns extra marks for creativity and originality and I kept thinking that at any moment, Wonder Woman would come to life in the stylized ‘posterized’ universe this photograph creates.

I also really like kwb’s ‘horse race’ at a minor league baseball game. I’ve seen similar races at minor-league ball games near the small Oregon town where I live and they are almost the best (and always the funniest) part of going to the ball park. I also like the fact that the normal players in the field seem to be ignoring the ‘race’ – but the big-headed Team Mascot is giving them its full attention from the finish line. Nice image, kwb!

Judging is not easy and after spending a lot of time looking at and relooking at all the images – each of which is so worthy in so many ways – the winner of this Competition is kwb’s photograph of the pinball machine on display in the middle of the San Francisco airport. It’s an unusual and unique interpretation of the theme – and additionally it’s simply a great composition. barondla also deserves a special mention for the unique and striking processing in that cool image. And I keep wondering about what Vendee’s Monopoly+Chess world would be like to visit…

My congratulations to kwb – and my thanks to everyone else, for some inspired entries and interpretations of the theme. (I keep thinking wondering what comes after, “if it’s Tuesday, this must be Belgium” – what happens on Wednesday, for example? If it’s Wednesday, this must be…? Hmmmm

Many congrats to kwb for their winning entry. The Pinball Machine shot is the one I would have chosen if it was my call. Thanks to Miguel for the interesting subject and I look forward to kwb's choice for the next comp.

Thanks Miguel for choosing my pinball photo and of course running this contest, which was difficult but fun at the same time for me. Thanks all participants too.

I'll think for a bit and will post the new one soon, so see you all there!
