As I expected, this is a tough choice... After going thru everyone's pics in the stream, I finally had to put the top contenders up side by side on my biggest monitor to compare...
Honourable Mention to Cipher's image of
fallen Icelandic vegetation
and to KWB's
snow. Both were strong contenders.
Runner-ups - tied because I couldn't pick between them - are Jacquot's
frosty window
and KWB's inside look at a
tumbleweed. Both show great randomness and are beautiful photos as well. Both of them were almost on top of the heap, it was that close.
The winner, in both showing randomness and in the overall appeal of the image, is Bart's lovely shot of grain and flowers interspersed. The stalks themselves are mostly vertical(ish), but the grain heads are going all directions and obscuring the pattern the stalks may have formed otherwise. The underlying green blades are present, but never in a pattern, and the blue flowers scattered all about are also not making patterns. The eye is drawn hither and yon through the image, never the same way twice. 'Tis a most pleasing photo!!!
So Congratulations to Bart - and yours shall be the honour of picking something for the new year upon which we are irrevocably embarked...
