Point and Shoot Competition #171 - The Secret Life of Plants

Welcome to contest #171. This month's theme is The Secret Life of Plants - any shot with any plants will be acceptable but ideally the shots will capture something not in plain sight - perhaps a hidden mushroom or a flower growing behind an urban building. This is a great contest for everyone, including people that have never entered a contest.

Rules:

1. Always have fun!

2. Cameras:

No cameras with sensors larger than 1"
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras (some exceptions below).
No (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.

Cameras permitted:
Mobile phones, tablets, small sensor toy cameras.
Pentax Q, Nikon 1, Ricoh GR, any 110 film, 35mm point and shoots from the 1980s/90s (e.g. Pentax PC35AF etc.)
Cameras you can take with you in a coat pocket.

ANY CAMERA BRAND ALLOWED.

3. Entries will close June 30th, 2022 midnight EDT.

4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels.

5. List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.

6. No restrictions on when the entries were taken.

7. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.

8. Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest closing date/time.

Thanks and Good Shooting!

Quite a tricky subject this month I think.

For my first shot I found the ruins of an 11th century priory hidden behind this plant.

All pictures are taken with Pentax Q + Kern Paillard Yvar 36mm D-mount cine lens

I was giving up hope on finding plants growing in random places. I got home the other day and saw this flower just beside our flat's entrance! Maybe just the right time, I went back to get a better shot, it's wilted.

This one was a teeny tiny bit of flower sprouting out beside trash bins at a mall parking I pass by on my way back from work. I thought It was fascinating how persistent nature is when I saw this plant. looking at it on a bigger screen now, I just noticed there's an insect feeding off it too! I thought it was some wilted part of a flower when I took this picture.

Lastly, this image of a normal, boring flowering plant everyone does not pay attention to growing by the gates of a nearby park. Sorry, the Q's crop factor got the best of me, I could not get a good shot with the gate included (got some of it at the bottom). As a bonus, there was a bee there that I didn't even see when I shot this (too bright out, no view finder!)

Sorry this is proving to be a challenge but keep it flowing - I like the creative efforts.

Three here from the wilder side. All point and shoots of some flavor from the past.

Actually the second one I posted is M43, which is larger than a 1" sensor (I had to look it up), so I will substitute this one, which is an iPhone 7 photo. This is of a now lost-to-development vacant lot meadow on W126th St in Harlem, NYC. It was such a surprise when I first saw it, mid-block urban meadow.

This was tough for me, but anyway here are mine.
1. Tumbleweed quietly plugs an overpath tunnel but nobody particularly cares. Pentax Q7 and Q 08 lens, 3.8mm, f/5.6, 1/400sec, ISO 200.
2. Go under cherry trees in southeast WA state now-ish and you'll find that majority of fruits are split like these due to bad weather. Terrible for farmers. Google pixel 3.

Contest ends tonight at Midnight EDT. You have just under 12 hours to update/change/submit entries. Contest winner will be contacted tomorrow.

Judging is already looking tough, make it harder for me by adding more excellent on theme entries!

Some garden furniture hidden in here.

This table and chair set in a shady area our garden has always been for decorative effect and always gets surrounded by other plants.
