Did Pentax ever have

any advanced compacts, such as the Lumix LX series, Canon S and G and such?

I have a small but growing collection of high end compacts from about 2010 to 2015ish, and am a bit keen to add a Pentax model or two but either my google-fu is under par, or is the brands only foray into that segment the MX1?

Typically it would be a camera with specs looking something like this: 10-14MP 24-28 to 110Ish-150ishmm reach with apertures in the 1.8 to 2.8 range with an ability to shoot raw.

Any info on such a machine?

The Q series were pretty advanced for the sensor size they used.
I still have my Q7 which handles like, and has pretty much all the features of a DSLR with a backlit 12MP sensor.

I tested it against a K10 I had at the time and the image quality was comparable.

The interchangeable lenses included a fast prime, wide angle zoom, standard zoom and 70-210 equivalent f2.8 zoom.

Although it's not strictly a Pentax, the Ricoh GX100 or GX200 might be the sort of thing you've got in mind. But prices for them have shot up lately as Generation Z has suddenly become interested in vintage digital compacts. In my view the Ricoh GX series is a direct competitor to the Lumix LX.

Pentax made the Optio line of compact digital cameras. Camera-wiki.org has some but not all of them: see Category:Pentax - Camera-wiki.org - The free camera encyclopedia .

Do bridge cameras count? See the Pentax X-5 Review and XG-1 | RICOH IMAGING .

I think the closest to this is Pentax Optio 750Z from like 20 years ago.

Much obliged, bridge cameras are somewhat on/off the radar, but not as such for this question.

I will anyhow take note of it, as it may be a branching out, collection wise.

I have some compact superzooms already, namely the Oly Stylus 1S and a couple of Lumix models. I like the Stylus, but are not especially fond of the Lumix offerings. Which is somewhat contrary to what I like in the advanced compacts, where I rate the LX7 the highest and probably the Oly XZ at the bottom, intersected by a few different canons and a fujifilm.

In terms of 35mm, the K-01 was a fairly compact camera. With the right lens, it didn't take up too much space though it probably wouldn't qualify as a pocket camera.

How about the MX-1? I love mine. Prices have climbed though.

Edit: whoops got lost in the sauce and forgot you already said MX-1!

The Optio WG-1 (waterproof handheld) had decent specs (14mp) but didn't shoot RAW. (There is also a Ricoh WG-50 that I never heard of until just now.)

Not really, as the sensor in the Panasonic LX100 is much larger than the one on the Ricoh GX100/200. The former also has more flexibility and is much easier and more pleasant to use, the IQ is higer as well. I know because I have both versions of the GX100/200 and a Panasonic LX100.

The Lumix LX100 is a current generation Micro 4/3 camera. Perhaps I should have made it clearer that I was comparing the Ricoh GX100/200 with the Lumix LX cameras from the same era, which had the same size 1/1.7" sensor. Or is this a case of deliberately misinterpreting a post just to try to score a hit?

I did get the gist your post, Dave.

Even though i do know about the LX100 MkI and II, what I associate with the Lumix LX is the single digit ones, of which I have the 2, 3 and several of the 7.

The 100s are, at least for me, a different and somewhat uninteresting beasts, based on size. I may end up with one, eventually but that will be at a bargain basement pricing, as I have several system cameras that are smaller and make use of the full M43 sensor.

The lx7 was a special camera indeed. Other than the Mx-1 I’m not aware of anything similar in purpose. The q series is available with the same sensor size but the lenses make it much larger. I sold my lx7 and now use a Sony rx100 iv but there’s a lot to like in the old lx7.
