Point & Shoot Competition #181 - TEXTURES

Welcome to the P&S Competition #181! This month's theme is Texture. Show me interesting subjects in where textures form a large part of the appeal of the photo.

Rules:

1. Always have fun!

2. Cameras:

No cameras with sensors larger than 1" (some exceptions below).
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras (some exceptions below).
No (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.

Cameras permitted:
Mobile phones, tablets, small sensor toy cameras.
Pentax Q, Nikon 1, Ricoh GR, any 110 film, 35mm point and shoots from the 1980s/90s (e.g. Pentax PC35AF etc.)
Cameras you can take with you in a coat pocket.

ANY CAMERA BRAND ALLOWED.

3. Entries will close:

New York, United States
Sun, Apr 30, 11:59pm (EDT)

4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels.

5. List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.

6. No restrictions on when the entries were taken.

7. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.

8. Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest ending.

Below are my example shots (Panasonic LX7 and RX100IV, EXIF available in Flickr).

As soon as I saw this thread I knew this sunny afternoon was perfect for it so I went exploring with my longboard. Not a macro shot, but I liked the mix of textures from brick, metal and wood. Canon Pro1, ~80mm equivalent focal length

Lots of different textures shown here - quite cool that this theme inspired you. Many of the examples may be closer shots but that’s certainly not meant to be a required element.

Well... we kicked off good. But then ground to a halt. Come on folks, let's see some textures!

Here's hoping I've got the Google Photos embed working right this time.
Olympus TG-6 f/8 1/800s ISO100 35mm equivalent 25mm.
For what should be obvious reasons, I wasn't game to use my Pentax DSLR for this image.

I've been away too long. Time to return. I just love textures. Here are my entries. Oldies but they fit the theme I think.
Foto 1 is an old reed roof of an old barn in the province Drenthe, Netherlands.
Foto 2 speaks for itself I guess.
Foto 3 When I was removing the old layers of paint from an old wall in our old farmhouse, this network of fungus appeared.

Hmmm this looks fun, I may have to charge the battery on my QS-1. I honestly can not remember the last time I used it.

Pine tree, stripped by porcupines. They eat the bark for nutrition. Look at fine marks left by their incisors.

Pentax Q7, 01 lens at f/1.9, ISO 100, 1/500 sec, used the built-in flash to soften the hard shadow on the trunk.

If you said that it's a fossil of ancient algae displayed in a museum, I'd have believed that! Looks great!

Although "textures" spells b&w to me, I decided to convert only one of my images to b&w anyway

All with Panasonic FX500

4.4mm (26.0mm equivalent), f/2.8, 1/160, ISO100

4.4mm (26.0mm equivalent), f/2.8, 1/200, ISO100

4.4mm (26.0mm equivalent), f/3.2, 1/500, ISO100

You can see that in the exif, I use an old Sony Cybershot F717. I always use automatic because I know nothing about the tech stuff. Studied it many times but it just won't stick into my brain. LOL

Thanks, I wish I could've saved it, but that wasn't possible. It was a damp wall, painted over many times with some thick stuff as you can see. It was not just this piece, it was over a much bigger area. I took many photos. Here's one of a bigger area. If it had been higher up the wall I would've tried to preserve it and frame it. It was however on the lower part. Nature is still the best artist there is sometimes.

My mobile client doesn’t show Exif. Thanks for clarifying. I find it interesting to know what everyone uses.
