Pentax Optio 330RS

Hello evertbody this is my first time on the forum and I am hoping you can help me with a problem I am having with my Optio 330 RS.
When I push the on button the lenses extends and the shutter opens and then straight away shuts down again. I did have the camera in its case in the car glove box on a hot day, could this have effected it. I bought the camers in 2003 new and have never had any problems with it untill now.
Does anybody have any ideas.

Thanks Peter.

Does the display indicate something before it shuts down? Does it even light up? I'm asking because I had a similar problem with my Optio S.

This happens with my Panasonic TZ when the battery is almost flat.
