Point & Shoot Contest #28 - Abstract

Well, people around me have already started talking about Valentine's Day, and that got me thinking... that maybe not everybody would be fine with that as an idea for a contest. Well, love can be considered as something abstract, so that got me thinking that I should consider "abstract" as the theme for this contest.

Here's some helpful definitions of the word abstract:

- of or pertaining to the formal aspect of art, emphasizing lines, colors, generalized or geometrical forms, etc., esp. with reference to their relationship to one another.

- something that concentrates in itself the essential qualities of anything more extensive or more general, or of several things; essence

- to draw or take away; remove

- to divert or draw away the attention of

- to consider as a general quality or characteristic apart from specific objects or instances

THE RULES

1. Remember to have fun!

2. No 35mm, APS, or 4/3 SLR/DSLR cameras allowed. 110 film SLRs, 35mm and smaller rangefinder/viewfindercameras are allowed. No medium or large format cameras allowed.

3. Entries will close on February 27th, 2010 at 11:59 P.M. PST, USA.

4. Maximum image dimensions are 800x800 pixels.

5. List camera brand, model with entry for all to see.

6. THEME: "Abstract"

7. Max of 4 photographs per person.

8. Post processing is fine.

9. Winner will set up and judge next contest.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys will come up with!

Not really my cup of tea this theme, I'm afraid but let's give it a go anyway.

All with Panasonic FX500.

Organic

Veins

Highway to Hell

And one more in B&W:

I did remember to have fun, however

And my thanks to my sister who did the sculpture I used in #1 and #4.
If you're interested, her website - in Dutch, I'm afraid.

Thanks for stepping outside your comfort zone, Bart, and giving this a try.

I'm liking what I'm seeing, so far!

Well, it seemed like the topic was quite a bit challenging. Thanks for all the people who entered. There were some solid photos here, but I can pick only three as the best. So, here they are:

3rd Place barondla

Beautiful colors and patterns. I also like the idea of juxtaposing contrasting shapes.

2nd Place Bart

Simple and well executed. I also like the title.

1st Place skid2964

I love the lighting and composition. Well seen, skid2964, and congratulations! I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us next month!

Thanks mamba for the honor of 1st place!
<I knew that box of 8mm brass would come in handy one day, I don't even own a rifle in that caliber yet, lol>

I will post the new contest by the end of the day....

Thanks again!
