Is there an image stabilization setting or something to help in the Kx ?
Yes, there is, however it's a bit on the noisy side. You can hear the sensor shift mechanism at work in live view, it's pretty much the same during video. I usually have it disabled.

There is a smaller, standard definition option: various websites report it as being 640 x 416, 640x424 or 640x480 ... I will check tonight and confirm which is correct. However this option is still only 24fps.

Here is a fantastic little video, posted by member prayforsnow, taken with the K-x. This clip shows the great video capabilities of the "little giant". I can't find any "jello" effect.

really...?

I think this video is pretty bad for jello, lots of handheld shooting is the problem

so is everyone shooting video with IS off then?

if I wanted to not go down the SLR for video route, but still wanted to use fast glass, is there any way to do so other than with the new panasonic m4/3 video camera?

I'm sure there are (or will be) adapters to fit various lenses to the Sony NEX line, including the VG10.

And there's the Pany GH1, GH13 and GH2. ... strictly speaking not DSLRs.

Of all the DSLR's/EVIL's the GH1 is by far the best when it comes to rolling shutter... and the GH2 will most likely be even better.

Rolling shutter is not just confined to DSLR's though. It appears in any camera using a CMOS sensor - camcorders included. It isn't as bad but it still rears its ugly head in many situations - fast pans, shaky footage, stobe lights or camera flashes only lighting up half the frame etc - and is a problem even with higher end cams such as the Sony EX1.

So the best advice is to get whatever camera suits your budget/requirements/preferences best, use stabilisation, and learn to shoot properly. If you are not shooting neasea-inducing shaky footage then rolling shutter wobble won't be an issue.
