"One Gene" Short film w/ K-x

Hey everyone, I was the DP on this film for a friend/classmate of mine for her final film project this semester. Took the opportunity to shoot the entire thing with my K-x and test out some lenses, namely my FA-50mm 1.4, and before I had that my M-50mm 1.7, but also used my Osawa 200mm f4, 28mm 2.8 and the kit 18-55.

I think it came out pretty well, considering I shot it all free-hand (couple tripod shots) and without an LCD loupe. Let me know what you think (and watch it in HD on vimeo to get the best quality of course):

Thanks, I'm not exactly sure since you can't set the shutter manually with video. I didn't know of the P exposure lock hack until after shooting, so I was just setting the aperture, then pointing the camera around until I got the right exposure and would lock it in video mode. I'm guessing the K-x set it to something that worked best for video. And if you're asking for the frame rate the K-x shoots 720p in 24 frames

you were zooming or something.. zoomed in and out.. and it wasn't very cool

Agreed, I cringe every time I see it, but alas I didn't edit the film, just shot it. I was adjusting my zoom, and just continuously recording, never meant for that to make it in, but the editor chose for some reason to use that clip. What's funny is that that scene was the only I shot with a zoom lens, I needed the wide angle of my 18-55 kit lens indoors like that, where the rest of the film was shot with my 50mm, 200mm and 28mm primes.

BTW zooming in and out is the main ”feature” that first shoots use. Usually they get over with it very fast. Some never realize it even as a problem.
I have had a task to get something out of the footage my friend shot at the trip. It was just crazy! Every time I found a useful scene he zoomed in-out-adjusted-zoomed again. What a nightmare!

Hey. I have a lot of experience with HD. My mother in law died from it. She had a Father and three brothers die from the same. My children's Mother is now diagnosed as well as their Aunt. Thanks for posting.
