What is the function difference of using stabilizer and rig

I am kind confused. Which one should I buy
I sometimes see people use stabilizer with DSLR, sometimes I see people use shoulder rig with DSLR....so are they provide same function?

Both try to accomplish the same result: stabilization of your video. However, which one you use depends on how you plan to shoot. If you're going to remain relatively still, do very little walking, a rig is what you will most likely want to use; standing interviews are a good case for a shoulder rig. However, if you plan to do a lot of walking around, like following a person or doing a fly-thru of a scene, then you'd most likely want a stabilizer.

Thanks...I think for general purpose, rig is more helpful...Unless I am doing some walking or running kind shooting style..Right?

That has been my experience. A rig works great for much of what I do. It's much easier to work with than a stabilizer as well, especially if you want to pull focus.
