That was exactly my concern! But on reduced power (1/32) the flash outlasted the D-Li-90 camera battery. Much to my surprise...

Well I never have concerns with Camera battery power.. I use the grip with a second D-LI 90, I make the grip battery drain first, and if it runs out fast I can always hot-swap the D-90 Li out for the 6xAA tray which I now pack around since I started doing time lapse. My night time shoot with the fisheye drained my grip battery but barely touched the body's battery.. and that was 812 shots in -6 C.

finally picked up some heat packs for next time to keep my lens from frosting up!

Wow.. Does the auto function on the K5 automatically switch battery sources? The only time I tried it, battery switching did not occur... And of course the next big question, how to exceed the 999 image limit....

Not sure what to call it, timelapse or just stop-motion video. Anyways here's a video shot from the Tram line on Hong Kong Island.
. It was really hard to get the exposure settings right throughout the journey cuz there were so many changes from being in the shadow and moving out in the sun =(. Shot with DA 10-17mm (12mm)

I switched over to night-only photography for my next timelapse

help with first time lapse video

Decided to try a tlv for the first time. Shot a flower blooming. Used K-7 shooting every 5 min for 99 shots ( during daylight hours). In jpeg at 14.7mp this filled up two 8gb cards. Now realize I have no idea what to do next to process this to be viewable on a tv or on the web. Help?
thanks

Well, I would download virtualDub and use it since it's a good free program. Make sure to use the resize filter in it to bring it down to a decent size from your pic's over 3MP picture's are above HD video resolution.

On the mac I use TimeLapse Assembler (a free or shareware program). Once all the files are placed in a folder, you select the compression method (e.g., H.264), frames per second and save location. When compression is complete, play back in quicktime..... Enjoy!

Hi all.
With the full moon approaching I am planning to spend a night on the ridge overlooking our little town with a view to making a time lapse video of the light and shadows as the moon crosses over the valley and maybe some stars.
I plan on starting just before the moon rises and going for several hours so I am going to run into the problem of having different light conditions and I'm not sure how to tackle it settings wise.
From what I have read on the net today I would guess I should start in Aperture mode with a Tungsten white balance and let the camera look after the shutter and ISO.
Then I thought, if I set the camera to 30 second exposures at 35 second intervals I could set the apature, white balance and ISO and just let the camera sort out the shutter speed as long as it didn't go over 30 seconds.
Do I sound like I am on the right track or have I got it all ass about.

No, I think it will take a bit of experimenting.. especially with a full moon.. you most likely will not get stars in the shot with that strong of a contrast without burning out the highlights on the moon. I think shooting in aperture mode is a good start and DEFINITELY set your white balance to anything but automatic! shooting in shutter speed mode with it set to 30 sec might be ok, but if your aperture only goes to say f16 or f22 it might still be too long for proper exposure (even @ ISO 80 or 100).. the moon is deceivingly bright.

Nice, I love how busy time laps shoots are with people.. but then you need to stay with your gear.. I love my outdoor ones lately (in the snow at least), so I can drop my gear and let it do it's shooting in a fairly secluded place and go get it a few hours later.
