I probably would shoot more video if I could shoot using the view finder instead of that stupid ground glass. I found I have better luck with a manual lens, but again, very difficult to focus with the ground glass. It is just a pain in the _ _ _ to use. The days of the super 8 were even better. I hate to say it but, Canon has it all over Pentax when it comes to video. Let's get into the 21st century Pentax.

Could be using a Sigma lens with OS?
But yeh, my K-7 IBIS in video was smooth.

Mh... looks to me like SR is off. It's not that smooth, and at one point I miss the way the SR bounces back. So I'd say a combination of a rather wide lens and no crop, rather than SR. Also: Aaaaaaw!

That was shot with SR on, 50mm, the weight was on the left palm while the fingers on the left hand focused. The right hand was above the camera, trying to shield the microphone, all while people bumped into me. There's more on my channel, including footage shot at 200mm (where the SR system struggles).

Another video...
Nothing special, unedited and untouched. DA 50mm 1.8, SR on + cat. Try to see if you can hear the SR system working... sounds more like normal noise to me.

Aaaah... I just checked with the owner, yup, it will be his Christmas present. Poor cat.

Any comments on the SR?

Yes, it is how I remember my K-7. Nice and fluid, but watch out for the recoil

As a comparison, here's one of my cats (desexed) shot with the K-50 with MovieSR off using the Sigma 17-70 Macro HSM OS lens with OS off at first and then switched on.
This lens is my solution to the horrid MovieSR.

Looks good.

As for the recoil, that's depending on the settings. The K-5 has a pretty big range of motion, which allows it to balance out more than (some) lenses can, but it is set in a way that it tries to smoothen more (because it can, I suppose). That leads to recoil (which with a bit of practice can be countered... at least when you plan ahead). It could also be set to filter out faster movements only, giving it a more direct feel, and less/no recoil. They could also implement some sort of "AI" to detect pans and to lock the sensor movement in the direction of the pan... so that that won't be smoothened (as much?).

It'd be up to Pentax to offer those options, though given that they wouldn't even activate the feature in the first I'd already be happy if they just activate it, with no adjustments possible.

I has 3 cats,. so this OT side step is acceptable

Kadajawi: Holy snotballs that SR is good. I'd be happy with that performance on any camera, even the little roll-back at the ends of movements is acceptable - that eats the SR in my Canon XL-1 alive, and blows away the SR in my JVC HD-7 - worst, roll-back, Ever.
And no, i didn't hear any sensor shifting noises, just the usual hiss.

Steve: that lens is pretty impressive,.. I wonder if the 18-35 Sigma does the same.
