Shooting Video with a KX, can't see screen when outside

One of my other little hobbies is building and flying RC (remote control) aircraft. I've taken my KX to the flying field a couple of times, I shot mostly stills but started to try my hand at video. Long story short, most of the time when I'm trying to shoot video outside I have a VERY difficult seeing the screen either because of glare or other light issues. Is there a hood or "display adjustment" that would make the display screen easier and more vivid for shooting video outside?

I've been a Pentax user since the early 70s, but this video stuff is very new to me. Any suggestions and help are GREATLY appreciated. Also, would the use of a mono-pod or tripod be a benefit when shooting video? I'm assuming it would.

Thanks,
David

The search term you're looking for is something like LCD Loupe or LCD hood. Lots of options.

Does that work pretty well in bright sunlight? I've always thought the kind of hood that most twin-lens reflex cameras used to use (with a flip-out fine-focusing magnifier) would be perfect. This Delkin hood looks pretty close.

While not perfect, it does help.

Oddly enough, I've filmed RC aircraft, and even with broadcast ENG cameras, it's not easy!

Tripod is a must, as is a zoom lens with a very quick response to zoom action.
And external zoom and focus controls, on the tripod handle(s), is a must for the fast pace of RC aircraft.

The Loupe is a good idea, but that means your eye has to be up to the body of the camera.

Best monitoring would be an external screen mounted to the hotshoe, with a proper shade over it, and wear a large brimmed hat (not a cap)

This way, you can look past the screen to the aircraft if you loose it in frame, zoom out, re-frame, and zoom in.

A mate-ette uses a similar unit on a Video Devices PIX monitor/recorder, very useful.

The Atomos 'Action Pack' does similar.
Being a cheap-skate, I just use cardboard folded to for a shade and a both on the top hole of my Shogun.

I'm cheap, too. I bought an old black t-shirt from Goodwill for $3. I cut one side open and I'm using it as a dark cloth for focusing.

How very 1880's of you.

Oooo, you 'really' need an old wooden tripod to go with it!

After reading your replies here and doing some research, I believe what I would like is the "Veiwfinder" type device. From the answers, it sounds like some of you may be professional photographers, or as least use Pro equipment. I'm not at that level (too many other hobbies...LOL), however I found this Viewfinder on E-bay, it does list several Pentax DSLRs that it it compatible with and I'm assuming that though the KX display is not quit 3" wide this Viewfinder would probably suffice.

Here's the link.....

3X Magnification Magnifier 3''LCD Viewfinder for Canon 60D 7D 70D 650D 650D DSLR | eBay

Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

K-x has a 2.7 inch LCD so a 3" loupe will work just fine.
The one you link to should be good.

OK, one last question. I'm assuming that when measuring a DSLR LCD, you would measure it diagonally such as when measuring a TV or Monitor?

That's actually not what I wrote, but has been moderated.
It seems the Mod's are only aware of US terminology, and perhaps need to be reminded that the Forum is WorldWide, and the original post wording is not considered offensive in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand,... etc.
In fact,... an IMDB link to the lead character of Comedy series.

The bar-stewards!

Taking offense at such mild colloquialisms is a choice, I don't know why anyone would chose to be offended when it is so much easier to chose not to be,
